USF Essex Model Shipways Kit

Dan Weiss

Recommended Posts

I am currently building the USF Essex model kit from Model Shipways.  A good friend of mine who has been model ship building for over  50 years has indicated that there normally is a second layer of planking done on most models, but it appears that this kit only has one.  Is this correct, or should there be another planking layer?  Please let me know when you can.

Most kit models?  Probably yes there are more.   But all kit makers have their own way of doing things.  If MS didn't do one then that's correct for the kit.  As for scratch.... very few do double planking as the real ships weren't double planked.
