Some would say too much. Due to neurological problems that started over 10 years ago. I am only able to fish occasionally now. Had to give up most fishing, all hunting, backpacking, Kayaking, hiking, boating, cinematography, and just about everything else. That's why I am taking up Model Ship/Boat Building. Some days even that is too much. Looks like some people install the stern post before planking, and some wait until later. I'm not sure yet which way I'll go yet. Almost every Syren build has had crumbling sterns from what I've seen. Model Shipways has to do something about their materials, it's deplorable... It's still in many Kits though. I hope I am not breaking forum rules. Short version, I requested replacement strips from them because the kit (Confederacy) was short of this item. Previously ME had been good at providing replacements. The first set of strips was the wrong dimensions. The second set, some weeks later, the same, wrong dimensions again. Now I'm lucky to get any response at all. They told me that they would ship them a week ago. I am using upgraded lumber from other providers. I had no problems with the Syren kit. Unfortunately we must use caution with this provider. David Rice Posted August 11, 2017 Author Share #179 Posted August 11, 2017 (edited) Making slow progress. I played around with some paint today. I created a very thin paint in a Yellow Ocher color. I also practiced making tree nails. The sample below has tree nails to the left. No tree nails to the right. I mixed some different green colors, but since the model has so much black and black trim, the green color makes the model too dark. I could skip the tree nails and use thicker paint. Anyway, it's time to get back to planking.
