I love these french fishing boats...instant holiday feeling!

Maybe I should build something like this after what I do now...and before I start on something I can't handle yet.

I look forward to see this come together!

Hi Jack,

Thank you. I have bookmarked your build :). You did a great job! So far I am having the same type of frustration with the direction as you had. The pictures are not always easy to follow.

Hi Jean,

This boat is next in my build queue after the bounty gets a rigged.

Are you using the preformed small boat or making one out of wood?

Not sure yet. I was surprised by its weight.

Hang in there, Jean. Study the instructions and photos carefully. You will figure it out.  Took me a while but I did figure it out.  Just proceed slowly. It is a beautiful mode when completed

Hi JP,

I have built the Billing version of this boat years ago. It is a very shapely vessel and I built it because of its fine lines. And I agree with Robin. It does have a holiday feel. Years ago while surfing the internet, I came across a Japanese ship model website that featured numerous builds of this model. They showed lots of imagination and painted the hull in all sorts of colours. They were awesome!

I named my model after my wife, which was an instant "point getter"!

Have fun with your build!

Hi Peter,

I think I must have come across this site as well. You are right, great build and a lot of inspiration for my build. Here are the Japanese sites:

I also like this french site. The scale is different (1/36) but great details especially on the rigging.

Time for a little update. I have dry fitted the bulkheads. No major problem. Except the 2 number 5 :)

20171003_000922.thumb.jpg.064599005432a51963b9b804132ee29a.jpg

Installed the second level desks and planked them. I blacked the inside of the bulkhead.

20171003_000055.thumb.jpg.399a40b19fd7890b901b715977b3bc33.jpg20171003_000041.thumb.jpg.1997c413c8aea22c137d3cc2365c5662.jpg

Frame 13 and 14 gave me a few difficulties. It was my fault for not inserting #13 deep enough. Some deconstruction had to be made. I had some wood on the side of #14 for support when I will be planking.

Here is the current status of the build. I have been working on fairing the frames to allow the false deck to adhere properly.

I might have some additional work to do on the stern. The next steps will tell me.

For the bow. I used some filler to ensure a good angle.

Planking is starting...

The first plank required to be placed 3mm from the bottom of the false desk. I used some spacers to achieve that.

I had to borrow some school glue from the girls. Of course, it had to be pink with glitters. LOL

Planking continues. I will be painting the Hull after using wood putty. So I am going a rougher job with the planking that I would normally. :)

First putty coat and repair.

I know that are we are probably to do more when I install the bulwarks. I used some primer to better see where I need more attention.

Thanks CapTino,

that's great I think it looks fine. Somewhere in the cellar I think I've got this kit, too. Bought on a secondhandmarket some 15 years ago - looked in and never got a chance to  get started her.  Removal, more interesting plastic kits, changing the job.

It is very nice to see her put into action.

Great job you did.

I'm going to look for your progress.

After reviewing the plan from AL and reading a few French build log. It became apparent that I needed to get some better documentation and plan. So I purchased the plans from the association des amis du musée de la marine

Attached the bulwarks and the upper stern. I decided to deviate from the directions à little bit by not planking first and install the stringers yet.

In my opinion, it will be easier to make adjustments to ensure the stringers are nice and flush to the inner bulwarks.

20171015_084454.thumb.jpg.9e6db454795d300a2d5c09feb4b3e7b0.jpg20171015_084503.thumb.jpg.2dda5523a623eb778792463f883a21cb.jpg20171015_084517.thumb.jpg.e1c6d37a2c7c15abb4bcbef78241e5ac.jpg20171015_084538.thumb.jpg.d0d57eef7c2167d59f74fea38c52f1e8.jpg

I started the deck planking. Another problem with the directions from AL. The width of the plank cannot be 5mm; with the scale of the ship I should be about 3mm.  My planks will be 3mmx60mm in a pattern of 3. Jig used to cut the planks.

I decided to use a new technique for me to represent the caulking, black thread.

It is a bit more difficult and time consuming but I am happy with the results so far. Thoughts?

Looks nice !  Good job on mating those laser cut side pieces to the rest of the hull.  Nice job on the stern also - that took me two tries and was still not completely satisfied with the results.

Thank you Jack. You are right the bulwarks was a bit tricky. I used a hot curling iron to get the curb. For me the biggest problem was that lack of clear directions on how the upper stern should be attached.

Finished the deck planking. It turned out OK I think. The main problem is the thickness and the quality of the wood. It was hard to get a clean edge.  Next step are the treenails.

Here it is...
