Work continues on the launches.  I will be ready for paint soon.

the walls and doors got glued in place

the roofs seem like there are going to be difficult.  So in typical fashion I procrastinate by moving on to the last 3 launches with ors.

these are coming out pretty good though. 🙃

It became too monotonous for me so I changed it up and cut out all the orrs

Still not wanting to go back to the launches I decided to start on the cranes. So I cut  all the pieces that will be needed  out And sanded them

Then started assembly.  This is much funner and way easier than the launches.

I wish i had a boat like that to go fishing!  I’m scared of painting them! Lots of different colors and new Techniques that I have never done.

The cranes are  actually the first things in this kit that are entirely Trumpeter parts. There are zero aftermarket parts for the cranes.

The only thing I am going to change is the rigging lines.   The kid provides photo etch lines that I will use around the hook block only.  The rest of the rigging will be EZ-line.

Yeah, but if I had one, I couldn't afford to launch it.

About 20 years ago, it cost around $250 per trip to go fishing in my 21' open fisherman boat. Fuel, oil, ice, bait, maintenance, etc.

Can you imagine what it would cost to go out in a boat the size of those launches? I shudder to think. About the only way it's affordable is to have an extra person or two who are willing to go out with you and share some of the expense.

The big outboard engine/s on my boat sucked down fuel like crazy.

Thanks guys. Here is just a little update on the crane.

They are just waiting to poop on something.  Especially oliver, hes a poop machine.

anyhoo,  here a bit more of the crane coming together.

91E55AB6-25C8-46D9-846C-715F6A9D3B63.thumb.jpeg.21da1d3eb169fdd93b0016dc7afc0a9c.jpeg58984761-3F02-4FE0-8FA0-38120F45A150.thumb.jpeg.20fb75037b87b9dd1be890d128366fe3.jpeg

i think  this next part is so cool.  The kit provides me with the pullies for the rigging line. One pulley is made of three pieces,a smaller photo etch sandwiched in between two slightly larger photo etch pieces all glued together creating a pulley.  My iphones camera sucks but you can almost see what i mean.

Excuse me for getting so much enjoyment out of your misery, but this is such a fantastic build.

If it makes you feel a little better I was rereading some of my stuff on the Bismarck's battle with the Hood and Prince of Wales to reset my memory and correct my knowledge on details of the action as discussed in channell's build. In the process of getting my education and knowledge revised I read that one of the first hits on the Bismarck from the POW was in the launches! I suspect they did not fair well. So it seems the Prince Of Wales got your revenge for you years ago. :D

I don't see any water stains on the floor or walls so if you threw some insulation, wallboard and matting on the floor, you could add some heat and be good to go. Bismark/ Missouri time without the commute.

Had my model shop moved into our basement a few years back. (Wi winters a bit too nippy in garage!)  After I installed a sump pump, wiring for the pump, and drain line for the pump,  I no longer have free water down there.  (Builder put in sump pit but skipped all the most important components!)      I did a little surface wiring, put in a white ceiling system, and a bit of soundproofing.  Then I added a small radiant heater and a dehumidifier and was good to go.  :P  It's a snug harbor for modeling now.  (check out my shop in the so where do you do yours then topic) It would be very good situation if not for having to replace my elevator that's lately kept me out of my shop now for an extended time.:( (I'm stuck in a wheelchair now.)

Must be quite a bit of noise with such a big crew.  Our parotlette can make plenty on his own when he gets going!  At least his messes are pretty small and I don't have to take him outside for a walk to do his business. :P

Jack, they are cocketiels.

Beta, I dont  think I’m going to be here long so I will just keep the basement how it is I guess.  And yes when the 2 males have a screaming match it gets very loud!   But I love them they are awesome! They also can live 30 years i was told!

Making good progress!

FYI, I've had problems getting paint to stick  on my Trumpy boats in the past... when I did HMS Nelson, the paint came right off with the masking tape after I painted the lower hulls.  You might want to prime the plastic with Tamiya rattlecan or similar stuff rather than airbrush primer to save some heartache.

Hey everyone,  I was on a roll with the cranes so I figured I might as well just finish them.

First was to finish installing the pulleys.

and with that done i was ready to paint. This part allways Makes me nervous. Which is why I’m procrastinating on the launches.

45 minutes later the deed was done.

also the Bismarck came out to play. I have to really start to build a case. A 1/4” thick acrylic 5 sided box the shape of a fishtank should do. Now I just have to make it.

If your Missouri ends up better than this build then you won't need to build a case, you will need to find a museum to display it in. This build is already museum quality so it is hard to believe that the next build could be better!

Seriously man, no flattery being pulled here, your Bissy really does look fantastic!

Every good build of this size and complexity takes on the artistic stamp of it's builder... I'm seeing it here and I'm really liking your take on it. All the aftermarket details mesh together well with the kit and you are keeping a very high and consistent standard of workmanship throughout the build... not easy to pull off when a model takes more than a year to build with so many different sub assemblies, different aftermarket components from different companies and burnout inevitably comes an issue.

I love it when model builds eclipse the line from "assembly" to "art" and it's really cool to see other artistic modeler's take on the same subjects I'm working on, especially when they are working at or above my own skill level.

This one's a winner!
