Oliver24 Posted January 2, 2018 Share #1 Posted January 2, 2018 Dear fellow members, I have always been fascinated by old wooden ships, so when I saw years back a finished kit by a family friend in Belgium, I decided to give it a try. However I never had the time and possibility to proceed with my plans till today, when I ordered a kit after some reading on the forum and doing a little bit of research. I ordered from a local store an Amati Santa Maria kit. As far as I understood, this is an intermediate kit so I will definitely struggle with the project, but after seeing some youtube videos I decided to give it a try. My decision was influenced by the fact that I am interested in history and the story of Columbus and the discovery of the new world intrigued me. Also, I wanted to begin with a project which had a little bit of all the stuff: double planking, rigging and some easier mast developing. After I discovered this international forum my determination got stronger because as far as I can read, there are wonderful people here who can guide me if I am struggling with some parts of the building process. Of course, I will open a topic about my work and I will post pictures. I wish you all a Happy New Year!
