Hello everybody,

I'm a newbie (real name Neil) to wooden model shipbuilding...with a few plastic aircraft under my belt.

My Dad has made a few wooden ships but due to poor health is unable to complete a model of HMS Diana (not sure what manufacturer but it's about 1 metre long) he started 40 years ago. Aside from an interest in all things nautical I would like to do this justice for him and complete it... (masts and rigging are remaining to be done).

For my first project I'm building the Caldercraft HM Schooner Ballahoo and plan to post some photos of my build in a log. I'm glad I found this forum as after reviewing some completed build logs I've discovered that Ive already made what might be a couple of rookie mistakes... so hoping to learn from the wealth of experience on here!

I'm a Brit based in Belgium by the way.

Hello Neil,

Welcome to MSW.  Diana is probably the same manufacturer as your Ballahoo unless it's the Spanish Diana frigate.  ;)   I hiope you'll start a log as it's the best way to meet folks and get help when you need it.

Welcome Neil from NZ way down under!

I feel a little bit of kindred spirit with you because my current project is restoration of a ship model built by an 11 year-old  Uncle a year or so before 1900, and I am treating it as a memorial to him.  He served in big square riggers from age about 15, then went off to WWI in 1915, survived that but died in Cologne of the 'flu' while on occupational force duties.

I am certain you'll enjoy MSW and wish you ssvery success.

Welcome to MSW Neil! Good to have you with us! Best of luck to you with your Ballahoo. I will echo others on here by saying to be sure to start up a build log for help. I look forward to seeing your work.
