HMS King George V by RGL - FINISHED - Tamiya - 1/350 - PLASTIC

Recommended Posts

The black and white looks fantastic even blown up.  The photo Dubz did looks pretty "old timey" (is that a word?) in the sepia.

She is looking superb  but hey slowly slowly does it why rush,   if it took a year - 2/3 years no matter, the enjoyement is in the building no the finnishing unless you own a model shop and want to display as many as possible.

My intention is to make sure I have a  dustproof covered display case to put my ole girl in for when she is finnished.

Smashing, mate. I especially like the blue in the camouflage, makes her come a live, not just another dull grey beast on a picture. I see you whipped out your 3mm drill bit, stanchions and thread ... must be thrilled to bits when that comes up.

Thanks gents but I’m not rushing, it takes weeks to get little bits done you don’t even notice then BANG, it seems to jump ahead.

The who deck has a few hundred pieces to make/paint/add, then ships boat, a plane, a million individual stanchions to be added.

Beautiful job, Greg.

I have to say I prefer the grainy photo (though I agree B&W would be better than sepia) - it looks like a photo taken at the time. Modern photos are just too crisp and clean to get the historical "feel" across as well.

A real achievement.

I can relate to that regarding all the deck details,   and guess the time can dash by and all of a sudden so much has been completed, just worries me - a completed ship and no where safe to keep here away from accidents and Dust.

Nice work Greg; this build is particularly well detailed and weathered - love the realistic look of the ventilation intake stacks etc.

A very nice addition to your miniature fleet (I know, still a bit to be done) :)

cheers

AS previously stated, Pontos based this kit on Tamiya’s Prince Of Wales not the KGV. As such the central catapult area is a retrofit and there is no protrusions at the end of the Cats on the side of the ship provided and have to be scratch built. The 42-43 version did have the armoured splinter shields instead of railings and I have yet to add 8 single 20mm guns. Yes, I also have to fix up the paintwork and add some large scuppers.

this is probably the most rewarding part of the build........but it is also the most tedious.  it's better to take your time and get it right,  rather than rush and run the threat of botching something up  ;)   were you taking time off from work?.......I will be in another week or so.  I have a one day work week coming up.......I can't frigg'in wait!  :D

Any chance to get a smaller anchorchain? I thinks it is way oversized or am I wrong?

Dirk

Dirk, I think it's borderline? I bought the kit dirt cheap, and it came with a Artwox wooden deck and chain (The deck is incorrect so I did not use it) but the chain is far  more accurate than what Pontos gave. It may be 1/4 too big but better than getting a North star individual linked chain and taking a full week to make it up.

Damn, this is going to nag me now.

Jan you can't see it but I did manage a triple layer. Too much like hard work for mine.

That detail looks great Greg, you've done a excellent job on those guns.  There is no harm in covering the boats with canvas, that is how they would have been at sea unless being used anyway :)

cheers
