Hello from Darwin Australia

Recommended Posts

Hello from Darwin Australia,

I wish to diversify from plastic modelling and have always been interested in wooden ships, an existing member thoroughly recommended this website and said it was a great resource for builds.

I am keen to start building and was looking at the recommended entry level kits on the model boat yard website. The problem with living in Australia is always range and availability of products and its a major issue in Darwin as we no longer have any hobby shops - all probably driven out of business due to the competitiveness of online sellers.

We have great web resources in the plastic modelling field and can get a feel for which national and international online retailers are trustworthy based on comments in the forums. I have now branched out to Japan and eastern Europe for some of my plastic modelling needs based on feedback on those forums.

I would be interested to hear how other Australian members get around the range and availability issues for their wooden ship kits.

Regards

Richmond

Hello Richmond. I am in Victoria but get all my wooden kits from Cornwall Model Boats in England. The last kit I ordered from there was $400 cheaper, with currency conversion than advertised here in Australia from a local site, and it arrived at my door 4 days after I ordered it. Their service is impeccable and I cant recommend them highly enough. I use PayPal with them and have never had a problem. This is their website.

Take a look. I am sure you will find a kit to your liking. Nice to have you aboard.

Cheers

Chris

I was aware of Cornwall but their postage seems exorbitant. I am going for the AL Bluenose 2 as my first build and they wanted to charge me 55 GBP for delivery. I am going to wait for BNA to restock.

Snowy - good to see another scale modeller in Darwin, are you just interested in wooden ships, or do you get involved in plastics?

John, g'day

Hello Richmond and welcome to this fantastic site from another Sydney member.

I started building wooden models only 18 months ago and have found the guys at Modellers Central in the Blue Mountains very helpful and great for service. They have starter packs for entry level blokes like me and are always happy to chat if you get stuck on any issues during your build.

Have a look at their website on https://www.modelerscentral.com/model-ship-kits/

Cheers..............Fernando

Hello everyone and thank you for your feedback

Snowy, what plastic modelling did you do, I am currently getting into Wingnut Wings, my main interest is 1:32 propellor. How many hours did you spend on that first ship?
