Thanks Jeff. The paint is Winsor & Newton Galeria Acrylic in the tube and the color is Crimson. I just thin it with water.

Thanks Jim and for all the likes too.

The rudder has been completed and fitted to the hull. Don't worry Jim I can remove it! :D

The grappling hooks have been made. Just have to add the rope.

For the thole pins I chucked them in my dremel and used files and sandpaper marked the cap rail, drilled and glued them in place. Once dry they were painted.

Other than a little touch up of the paint the hull is now complete.

.025 light brown for grapnels.

Rusty....perfectly executed.  I should have the rigging packages on my site to order by Monday but hopefully sooner.

Hi Jeff, It's all smoke and mirrors!

All the credit goes to Chuck for an excellently thought out and produced kit.

It doesn't hurt I was able to spend over 50 hours in the shop last week!

Thanks Chuck. I can't say enough about the job you did on this kit!

That's great to hear. I was looking at box, pear and cherry for the masts but it just didn't look right.

So, ahem, I'll "patently" ;) await the release of the rigging and masting kit.

Also thanks everyone for stopping by and all the likes!

Thanks Ben.

I'm thinking I'll make the sails and see how they come out.

If they look ok I'll try to temporarily hang them and see how that goes.

I'd like to do it with sails as I only have one other model that I did with sails.

Time will tell!

You guys should look at the mini pamphlet that David Antscherl wrote on making sails.  Using silkspan there is no sewing.  Although I would use individual panels at this scale.  I dont think I am going to add the sails but I may make one just to show one method for making them.

Congratulations on a very fine model!

Also, I commend you on a well written and informative log.  I now have a good source for my build.

You should come down to Jersey for one of our meetings.

Cheers.

Hi All,

The masting and rigging kit arrived and I've finally found some shoptime so the adventure continues.

The kit contained wood for the mast, gaff, bowsprit and boom. It also contains the dead eye kits,

1/4" blocks, wire, brass, pins, flag, plan sheet, rigging line etc. to complete the model.

DSC00146.thumb.JPG.c21e7520c97de9d9c03c3930a11e2fba.JPG

Here the wood has been lined off to start rounding them off. The gaff has the sides shaved off with a #11 x-acto.

The bowsprite and gaff completed.

And I forgot to take pictures of the mast and boom completed but here they are rigged in place. The hooks and eye bolts were made from supplied 22 ga. wire.

Here is the gaff with the lines attached.

And the gaff in position.

The lines are in place but will have to be either loosened or tightened as the rigging progresses.

That is looking great Rusty!!!

Also ...just to let you guys know, I gave Rusty some new rope that I am testing.  Rusty is using rope that I made using a new custom brand of thread that I had made which is ultra smooth with ZERO fuzz and lumps.  You can see how defined the lay of the rope looks.  I am moving closer and closer to switching over to this new stuff.  It wont unravel at all just like my current offering.

Great work Rusty...😊

Thanks Chuck,

Yes the new version of your rope is even better than your current rope. Hard to believe but true.

As you said no "frizzies", looks great right out of the package and working with it is fantastic.

I'll be doing the stays and shrouds soon and will post more picture!

Brief whining moment! Well I just completed 9 straight days of working with limited time in the shop. Ok whining over!

I've made the Deadeys, straps and served the line for the shrouds, backstay and the forestay.
