By my count there already are more than 6...

From his sig:

Trawler Syborn - scratch build

Billings AmericA 1:72

U.S.S. United States 1:96 - Revell plastic / wood bash

Billings Gothenborg 1:100

This doesn't include the lobster twins or the Half-moon.    So.. 7 total not counting any aircraft.   Must be one huge building table. :)   Maybe the encouragement from Robbyn will kick the number to a nice even dozen? ;)

A while back a gentleman advised me regarding building these models.  He said, "when it gets tense, you just have to get up and get away for a while- or it won't stay fun."

While my history isn't in ship modeling (on my second small build to learn how its done), After reading several of your excellent builds, I can't help but think that if I were to take over another section of the house so that I could start another build or two, instead of walking away I could just decide what I felt like doing that day.

Additionally, when the paint says "wait so and so hours" I might actually learn to do that.

Love watching your quality work!

they've probably seen it........it in the background in some of the pictures.......LOL!   it's still our secret augie....we share the interest  ;)

thanks popjack.......I have two tables on one side of our computer room.  I go as far as I can on one build,  until I have to let it dry.....then I go on to another build.  I juggle the steps as I go.   everyone has a different method.....for me,  this works well,  because while I'm working on one build,  I come up with ideas for the others.........this way I don't lose my train of thought.   yes,  this works extremely well as far as paint goes.....I like to let things dry overnight....plenty of time for the paint to cure.   if you do decide to try it,  I would suggest keeping the builds pretty much the same scale.......takes away one aspect to worry about.   the one thing to remember......if you enjoy what your doing, it will always remain fun.   thanks for looking in on my builds......glad you enjoy them.  ;)

did a bit more in the last couple of days.  they show the transom and counter planked in the next step.  I had already cemented on the brackets for it,  so I figured I'd do it before the planking.....it makes sense.

this bit of planking requires three different widths of wood .....4mm  5mm  and 6mm for the bottom.

post-612-0-41150800-1369226583_thumb.jpg

the 6mm is done in a diagonal pattern than the upper planks.....kind of a cool arrangement.  the mid counter is the 5mm.......the upper part of the transom is the 4mm.

now that the planking is on there,  it needs to be trimmed and sanded.  I'll do some of it now,  and the rest of it will be done when the frame is fared.

hi Patrick........baby's first planks ;)

thanks Tim.....all the deck panels that needed to be made,  are done.   at this point,  I'm not real sure how I want to go about this.  I might just do the hull planking even with the main deck line,  and then do the deck planking after.  it is kinda,  a scary thought though.....I already broke one of the bulwark posts.   it's a toss-up.......the kit is very nice,  in spite of all the missing parts.

I'm just inching along Sjors  :)     this will give you a good idea in the different woods used in these kits.   I'm a bit interested myself  ;)

Hello Popeye, :P

I just came across this build. Ah - you will have to eat quite a lot of spinach to heave the sails up.

Your woodwork skills are always a pleasure to see my friend.

Good job.

Okay...now I'm convinced that you have to be doing some of this in your sleep!   That's what I'd have to do in order to accomplish so much on so many ships...and...have them all look so good!!! :D

Popeye my friend, another build and another exciting saga to watch for sure.  Especially since it seems to be moving right along. However, I must say, being one who has 2 builds on the table and an incredible urge to and daily struggle NOT to start another one - you are not setting a good example.   I am trying to stay good and focused but you are showing the benefits to not doing so :D.

you caught me Sherry!.........yes...it's true that when I snore.....I AM  sawing wood!   yup.......I get up in the morning,   I just grab the wood and throw it on  :)

I should put a disclaimer at the bottom Adam............beware in following the ravings of a madman....least you be sucked into the delusion as well

I wish that was so John.......then I could get back all the wood Gibbs chewed to splinters,  andI can stop watching all the smaller diameter dowels...the admiral would stop using them for plant stalk stakes! ;)

Hi Popeye!

I never thought of having two building tables.  I do have another model, a simple one - the sultana that I practice on before going back to the main build, but I never thought of having it so that I could easily go back and forth.  May have to build another build table!  My wife will be so happy!

You are an inspiration! :D

Popeye, I'm a little curious........ are you by any chance involved in some type of " How Many Models Can You build In a Month " contest ?? :D  :D  :D ..... Man , you are like lightning when it comes to model building.... I noticed a bottle of meds in one of your pictures, they wouldn't happen to be " model building " pills ,would they?? :D ..... Your Half-Moon is coming along nicely... I don't know how you do it, but you do it!!!

no Frank........I wish there were though.   that is a bottle of 5mm single blocks.   the admiral is on a few meds,  and she saved all the bottles for me........makes for a neat organizer tray for all my extra parts.   it does seem that way though.....since 2010,  I've completed 9 ships.  I think it's due to my starting this hobby at such a late age......and that when I jump into something,  it's usually with both feet.......running! :)

A bottle of 5mm blocks? Sounds like meds for a ship modeller to me! :)

Which reminds me, I need some 5mm deadeyes to solve a 'headache'...

I'll have to post a picture of what my part storage system looks like.

post-612-0-37025700-1369705570_thumb.jpg

it starts with a large box,  in which i lined with toilet paper tubes that are cut in half.  the bottles are tall, so they sit in there without too much room to move around.  the tubes are spaced out so the bottles are not crowded.  I haven't labeled them....I started to,  but the contents change with the supply I have of any given thing.....it would be a bother to relabel them.  they are organized......I have a mental idea where everything is.

thanks Eric.......I hope you have one as well  ;)    no signs of me slowing down any time soon :)
