Thank you all for the kind words.

Here I’ve started adding the planking up to the point under the main deck beam location.

At this point I'll move on to planking half of the deck with Holly.

Here is the first row of holly set in place.

I pre-notched the plankes for the main gun deck supports.

Nice - holly is really nice for deck planking. Plus this is 'easy' planking so it should go nicely. Are you planning on caulking? though there are a multiplicity of methods of doing that..

Hi Joss, I will be using the black paper for the caulking just like I did the hull.

Some time I want to try the black wood filler but for now I'll stick to paper.

Hi All,

Sorry all but the camera decided to hack up the hair ball. I was taking pictures

thinking all was good. I pulled the memory card to download the pictures and

nada, zip, zero nothing. Put the card back in, took some more pictures. Nope.

I replaced the card and still nothing. You would think that a $100 camera would

last longer then 6 years of being covered in dust in a work shop and repeatedly

knocked on the floor.

So anyway, I stole the Admirals camera to take some pictures to bring us up to

date. The decking was completed and I used Holly treenails with the black

construction paper for the caulking. For the support beams I used some Swiss

Pear and using a xacto and files. I then went on to framing in the gun deck with

the boxwood which the main beams are almost done and then I’ll start on the

carlings ledges and knees.

Very impressed with your build Rusty.  Particularly the floor beam posts.  Nice hand work.  The holly and the black construction paper look great!

Really nice Rusty. I like especially the work you have done with the treenailing of the deck! They all look symetrical and in their correct place.

Did you use some kind of handmade plate to mark the place of them?

Keep going!

Daniel.

Hi Pete and Ben. There’s nothing special I do. I just make sure that the paper is completely

glued on both sides. I only leave about 1/32” excess on the topside and none on the bottom.

Once dry I sand with 150 then 220 then 400 grit sand paper. I sometimes I will scrap it too

with a single edged razor blade. I’ve only tried this on hardwoods like holly, boxwood and

par marfin. I hope this helps.

Hi Bob, Thanks’ and the chisel’s I use are the small and mini palm chisels from U.J. Ramelson.

Thanks Russ. Doing them really makes me want to get a lathe!

Thanks Paddy. I wish I hadn’t lost the pictures though.

Thanks Bob. I was pleased with the contrast with the planking, paper and treenails.

Hi Daniel. I just use a strip of wood cut to the desired width and lay it on the beam and mark

each plank prior to drilling.

Thanks Mark. Much appreciated.

Rusty,

just been catching up with everyones progress. The build is looking really good, congratulations. Nice work with the deck beam pillars, little details like that really lift the quality of a model. You have a lathe?

Regards,

Grant.

Thanks Joss, Larry, Runner63 and Grant.

No lathe yet Grant. Hopefully some day I’ll get one.

Well all of the gun deck beams are in place. And some light sanding

has been done. Next I’ll be working on all of those knees. Then I’ll have

to do all of the carlings and ledges.

That’ll keep me busy for a while! :)

Thanks Pete. I'm glad it's coming out nicely.

Here are the first of the knees in place.  Still need to be sanded.

Next it's on to the 10 hanging knees and all of those little notches to cut.

Thanks, Paddy Daniel and Bob.

All of the hanging knee blanks are rough cut out with the one in the

foreground cut and ready to be installed.

Here are a couple of close ups to show the various angles etc that have

to be cut into them to fit around the other knees and hull planking.

After they are all done it will be time to add all the carlings and cut those pesky notches. :o
