Adrieke,

I'm finally catching your lovely build.   Sorry to hear about your father, but happy to hear he's doing better.  I do hope you and your wife get to visit him. From experience in our families, it will be a trip you won't regret.

after a few days of playing with the endeavour i finaly got round to bying some extra clamps to glue the second deck on

afterwards using a torch i checked for gaps and used some filler so that there is no leakage

you may notice the hole in the deck thats where the led lights will go for the first deck. this way no wires wil be visible through the windows on the second deck. i will also make it that i can easily take out the assembly if i ever need to replace a led.

i still need to figure how i wil hold the 3rd deck in place without glueing it on.

the last picture i tried out to see if the smoke stacks fitted

next i need to create a mold for the windows i need to scratch build

the idea is to assemble all the windows in this mold so that they will all be the same size and shape

Hi Adrieke,

Admire your courage to complicate this build with lights, for which you have to do a lot of modifications. Maybe the next time I built the King :P will follow your model.

Keep the good work going.

Hi Adrieke,

Nice job :).

I don't know what's your next step, but wait for fixing the chimney stacks until next deck is on its place.

It fits not so well (in my kit it didn't).

hello Wim

yes i know i have already adjusted the holes in the deck and was just testing to see if they are straight and it looks good :)

my next step is finishing the lights for the first deck then glue the second deck stateroom on and scratch build the windows :)

i finished working on the little box wiht the lighting for the first deck

it fits nicely in the deck and can be opened to pull it out

now i need to find some small connectors. to hook it up

wiht that out of the way i could now glue the stateroom onto the deck

i did not plank the outside yet as i will fill any gaps up first and then plank over it

i wil now also be able to fit the piece of breadboard with the resistors in teh compartment at the front between the 2 smokestacks (will put 2 walls in painted black so it wil be invisible from the outside

since the inside of the front and back half circle staterooms wil be visible i had already decided to take out the pieces of plywood that hold the construction together

i painted the walls white and planked the floor

the 4 bits of wood strip will be used to hold the ceiling up until the other walls are bended and glued

they are also painted white so that they wil not be noticeble

can you tell that the curved walls are also scratch made

when taking the stateroom apart to refit for lighting they broke up in several pieces.

first i was just going to join them up again but the ones for the 3rd deck stateroom are smaller and they ended up being a total mess with one bit missing somehow

i bought some 1.5mm plywood to remake them.

the holes for doors and windows are only roughly cut

progressing with the second level stateroom

the back room is ready to have the outside wall fixed again

the square part i cut out at the ceiling is for the part with the led light in.

as mentioned before the idea is that i can repair any faults in th elighting after the model is finished.

for that i wil need to make sure the parts that fit on top of the 3rd deck (see second last picture) are bended corectly so that it wil fit together without gaps and without glue

as feared after reading Johns build log on how he solved the lining up of the holes for the smoke stacks the 3rd deck doesnt line up with the 2nd deck and it wil need to be moved 3 mm to the back

Hi Adrieke,

You are well progressing in your lighting adventure. Happily the 3rd deck misery is identified still in time. In this stage it is not so hard to correct (I assume).

Good day Adrieke,

Your build is quite elaborate but you look like you doing fantastic. Beautiful vessel and I love the diagonal decking.

As to the sealing iron that I'm using on the San Francisco, here at Hobbytown USA it was only $20 and now that I have it I realize it is basically an iron. Fancied up for the hobbiest but essentially, still an iron. My point is, find the smallest clothes iron you can that has a non-stick bottom and you will have pretty much the same thing. It' just adding high heat to wet wood in a small area and bending the fibers as it generates steam. I agree... it's nice but I wouldn't spend $55 either. Just a thought.

thanks for looking in Randy :)

hmm maybe like a small travel iron if they have that as normal irons feel too bulky for the job

its the same as the other electric plankbenders which are just soldering irons with a difernt tip

unfortunately here in oz lots of things are way more expensive then they should be

John yes it was not too difficult fixing up the 3rd deck. i did notice that the aft 2 smaller steam stacks are slightly off compared to the plan.

soaked and fitted the first curved wall.

i also worked on preparing the other half circle room for the led :

cutting out the ceiling

make a little ledge to slide the part on

then test fitted it

the last picture shows the inner walls behind the steam stacks that will cover up the wiring inside and the ceiling bit in place

hi John

i am figuring it out as i go along

i have a clear view now on how the wiring for lower 2 decks will run

only thing i am stil working on is what kind of connectors i wil use to hook all the parts up

they need to be small and easy to disconnect

Nice job Adrieke.

In fact there were small windows on top of the second deck. On the outside were the guestrooms and in the middle the bar, diningroom, etc.

Maybe a photo tells more (left upper corner).

Adrieke,

Assume you are using copperwire to construct the ventilation opening since you must be able to remove the 3rd deck (replacing lighting bulbs a.s.o.)

tonight been doing a bit of soldering work. man that is just not my thing :(

but i did make progress. just trying to figure out how to hook up the wires

one red wire needs to from right to left to hook up to the first deck lights

a second one to hook up the single led on the right to the back 3

then a black wire to hook up to the end of the 4 circuits on the left
