HMS Victory Cross Section by Antony - FINISHED - Scale 1:36,

Recommended Posts

Antony the section looks like it is nearly finished. The film you mentioned for the copper plates how does is follow all the surface modulations or is it some sort of spray?

Hi.

Thanks for your nice comments and likes :)

Michael . The film is very thin and flexible 100% clear plastic. It comes in a roll in many widths.

Needs a lot of care putting it on as there is NO second chance to get it right.

Would not be suitable for normal hull as there is very little stretch in the film.

Hi Divarty.

Thanks for your kind comments :)

I must finish this soon as I now have two ships in dry dock.

Just got to cast the rest of the cannons. And install all the bits onto the different decks.

Make a stand and case and it's done.. Sounds easy in words doesn't it :)

Starting after the half term break.

Thanks for looking in. Antony.

Antony,

I would love to see the steps you follow in putting film on the copper plates.  I have been trying to figure out what I might use for my Syren.

thanks

Hi Richard.

I would not recommend using the film on a curved hull. Very little stretch.

You can spray on a film. Link below.

http://www.ipmsstockholm.org/magazine/2002/11/stuff_eng_tech_sea_water.htm

I have NOT tested this but it should be fine.

Hi.

Well its the end of this build and its been a nice steady build.

Started in September 2013. with a couple of breaks IE summer holidays. Daughters wedding.

A few photos are in order..

post-2328-0-10428500-1437472938_thumb.jpg

The Enclosure is made from Fire resting poly-carbonate, as its Health and Safety thing.

Top .bottom and back are 12mm plywood.

post-2328-0-52250100-1437472946_thumb.jpg

There is also a Mirror at the back of the model..Gives it more depth. Doctor Who cheat.

post-2328-0-47076500-1437472955_thumb.jpg

The Red button is a press to make switch. and holds the power on for 30 seconds.

Lights that are in the Hold and Orlop deck flicker like oil lamps.

post-2328-0-47671300-1437472964_thumb.jpg

The two Dolphins are carved from Boxwood (not by me) . Local shop sells then cheap.

I did not put gravel into the hold in order to keep the weight down.

The drawings are bits that I had lying around.. They cover the plywood nicely.

I really appreciate the help and encouragement you people have given me throughout this build.

I would also like to thank my friend Roy for supplying my with the timber for the build.

And of course the person who keeps everything running in the house while I have my head buried in the model. Marian.

And all the likes... There are soooooo many. :)

Any questions.. Please ask.

Regards Antony.

Beautiful build, Anthony.   Are they any more pics of the build in progress? I was beginning to think that you had given up on this.

Hi Paul.

Thank you for your nice comments.

I always keep my saw blades sharp and feed the wood into the saw at a slow and constant speed. Also keeping the wood pressed against the guide.

If the wood is on show I will pull a sharp edge across the length. This makes it almost planed finish.

As far as the grates.. There are some brilliant tutorial on MSW that cover making gratings.

Most of what I have done I have learnt from this Forum.

And welcome to MSW by the way.

Hello Shipmates.

A large update as I have had a lot of time building.

I made up some mesh for the hammocks my using some tights (fishnet) stretching them and then applying PVA glue until dry. The knit does not show when in place on the ship.

Have also faced off both ends of the ship (Fore and Aft ) makes it mush more pleasant to look at :)

Will cover the copper plates with a very thin film used to cover book covers. This will stop little fingers pulling off the copper plates.

Thanks for looking in.

Regards Antony.

Nice and clean plating-structure Antony,

Hi Nils.

It's much easer to do on a cross section as you do not have the curves to plate.

Not looked at this build since it was finished.

Thanks for the likes.. I missed seeing these.
