Thank you guys for warm words!

David, I use mostly needle files and sand blocks, then I have better control over edge, and chisels for final cut by inner corners

Alex

Current build: HMS Sphynx, 20 gun ship launched in 1775 at Portsmouth, Hampshire.

On the drawing board: HMS Anson, 64 gun third rate ship of the line, launched in 1781 at Plymouth

Hello,

today only a small update, the work going slowly. The fore part of planking was most complicated one, I decide to make them as one piece of three plank to achieve clear rounding. The first image show the principle:

Here both pieces glued in place:

First plank of after part is also glued.

Alex and Remco back posting in the same week - I'm in heaven! Love the classical Navy Board approach to the forecastle planking, Alex.

I only registered to say... I don't know. this is... this is,... oh man! I was just searching the web for some 17th or 18th century ship plans to make a 3d model (it's been on my ToDo list for a while), and I stumbled upon this forum and this... this... Hi Alex;

A very nice job you have made of her indeed.  The quality of the work is very high.  Tapering deck planks look so good.

I am intrigued to know if the scarph joints in the margin planks on the quarterdeck and forecastle are your own thought,  or is this based on an example you have seen.

All the best,  and happy modelling.

Mark P

Previously built models (long ago, aged 18-25ish) POB construction. 32 gun frigate, scratch-built sailing model, Underhill plans.

2 masted topsail schooner, Underhill plans.

Started at around that time, but unfinished: 74 gun ship 'Bellona' NMM plans. POB

On the drawing board: POF model of Royal Caroline 1749, part-planked with interior details. My own plans, based on Admiralty draughts and archival research.

Always on the go: Research into Royal Navy sailing warship design, construction and use, from Tudor times to 1790.
