Do you wish to include scratch building projects with available wooden framing package ? You could include them in a separate category. Examples might include Admiralty Models Swan and Echo class ships as well as the Echo cross-section, Naiad, Triton, etc.

Good Morning All,

So sorry for the delayed response!

Thank you for the incredible amount of support for the project,  it is really appreciated and WOW have I been getting some great ideas from so many of you!

I will be sorting out the ideas and putting together a "wish" list of sorts and updating here in this thread.

Hello Adam,

Just checked out your database.
What a wonderful project.
Very nice to have all the info together.
I'm sure this will be very succesfull.

Thank you and good luck.

Anja

Thank you Anja, appreciate the support tremendously!

Hi Adam

Great idea

Here's a thought, if members sumitted PDF's of build instructions, could they be hyperlinked to the appropriatte place in your spreadsheet?

I guess there may be a copyright issue but sure would be helpful

Nick

That would be a great thing to add, but yeah the copyright issues are just muddy enough that I will probobly stay away from that rabbit hole for now.

Do you wish to include scratch building projects with available wooden framing package ? You could include them in a separate category. Examples might include Admiralty Models Swan and Echo class ships as well as the Echo cross-section, Naiad, Triton, etc.

I will definately be including scratch projects,  I just havn't figured out the best way to present them yet.

Adam

How about adding '1st-3rd Rate' as a ship type?

Nick

Well, here is where my nautical ignorance is going to show a bit.  I have heard those terms, but only now know what they mean because I had to go look them up :D .  Not a bad idea,  I am an information junky and love as much info as I can ... I am just not sure if it applies to all ships or only certain sihps and where I would put it.  However, it is on the wish list!

Hehe popeye, I gave up having free time years ago - I just do what I can with what I have and when I get it!   I actually started doing some billings over the weekend (I have the pictures downloaded and test ship on the site now).  Will be flushing that one out next!

Again all, keep the suggestions coming. I may not be able to do them all but will take anything under consideration!

Well, checking the stats people are hitting the DB - so thank you all for the support and glad it is useful to folks so far!  The holidays took me out of ciruculation,  nothing major just a lot of traveling here there and everywhere (my wife has a very large family so seems like most of December was spent going to someones house =) ).

I have started adding Billings boats to the list, those should be done shortly.

Also, have added colums for length and height in mm   so now both inches and mm are represented.   New ships going in will auto convert whichever way needs being done,  for those ships already in the system you will see blanks for the mm columns - I have yet whipped up a nice script to go back through and adjust everything; that is next on the plate =)

Thanks again all!

And happy building!!

Billings has been added,  as per usual there are a fair amount of blanks as I either did not readily have the information OR due to my novice nature was not sure of the information.

As always if you see a mistake or a correction feel free to let me know!

Will be moving on to Caldercraft and Corel next.

Thanks all - enjoy and Happy Modeling!

Latest update  (I fibbed,  was going to do Caldecraft and Corel next - but did Constructo instead :o )

Constructo entered - as per usual, there are some empty fields because either A) the site didn't have the information or B) I am ignorant enough about maritime matters I did not know the anser or C) Both :P

Still working on an easy way to the existing dimension conversions in there rather than by hand mainly because there are a lot!

Also fixed whatever happened to make the images go on vacation for a bit, but they are back.

And yeah, Mr Friskington is getting a little ornery - may need to give him a raise or a sardine or something :P

Great idea. Any reason why Amati, Victory Models are not on your list

When I made the original list it was from what I am familiar with, from there the list has grown as people suggested them.  Those two are on the list now as well as several others which folks have brought to my attention (boy there are a lot of em! ) ;)

Good evening ladies and gentleman!   Quick update - Dusek Models is now added to the database.  With that we currently have 225 kits listed with 8 of currently 25 companies planned.  Have been getting great suggestions and really appreciate it!  Remember no suggestion is ignored, they are all added to the list - it is just a matter of when they can be gotten to.

And, so far averaging just shy of a 1000 visits a month - some great support coming from the MSW crew.  Thank you!!

Here is the current list with added kit manufacturers based on your input and where they stand.  Will start working on the next one soon as well as polish up the "detail" page for the kits.

Hola Adam, you had a wonderful idea in creating this database.  It is for great help to search for selecting a new built and compare ships and brands.

However, looking at your list I found that there a couple of  errors to your Wasa entries:

Nation: is Sweden not Swiss

Size: the numbers you put in inches are actually  cm.  (instead of 98 in must be 98 cm or 980 mm)

Hopefully this information can be useful.

Saludos, Karl

Evening all - just popping in to let ya'll know I have not disappeared =)

Still working on the database and my ship models - just VERY slowly as time permits, this particular semester is a bit more involved and sucking up a lot more of my time than I expected (Really wish I had done this back when I was a youngster ;) ).

Anywho....

What about Soclaine?

Will add them =) Thank you!

WOW thank you Karl, Looking into how I can edit all of these easily, AND figuring out what happened with my stored proc - will fix those as soon as I can.

As for the nation, I had originally put the country (e.g Sweden) but then moved to nationality (e.g Swiss, although Swedish will fit better with the others.).   I have them in there as American, Danish, German, French so Swiss (or Swedish) just fit better with the other convention.

Will put it up to those using it though,   better the ships country? (England, United States, France etc etc) or as is now (British, American, French etc etc) ?   I can accomodate.

I do see there are a couple I missed in there (a United States or two).

The only conditions right now are a brand or company who is on the up and up providing original kits and plans, any companies who are believed to be involved in copyright infringements, pirating, etc etc will not be considered for the list.   Should any get on there (as I am not an expert by any means) anyone can let me know and it will be pulled.

I never knew there are so many manufacturers of model anything. Learning a lot and googling the ones I have never heard of. Good thing.

Hello Everyone ...

what could I say with a few words ? Here it is: our brand is " MarisStella.hr ," we want to show to the world the forgotten vessels of the Adriatic Sea , ... first we make a detailed research of the vessel , then we make a detailed plan (draft) of the vessel , then we compile the build instructions ... then we create mounting kit of the vessel ... and in the end we produce kits ... :) so You see , these are all original products , no copyright infringements , no pirating , etc. ... :) ... by the way it would be good to point out : except Santa Maria and Trabaccolo , the world of the kits had not seen one of these vessels so far ... these are completely new on the market ...
We are new on the market and we really would like to be included in your project ... do You agree ? :)

Okay - so, my shipyard continues to stare at me nightly casting accusing glares of neglect, I still havn't even found time to go through the VASSSSST list of post updates that is up in the corner there on MSW.

HOWEVER, I did squeeze out some time to go through and adjust/correct the existing measurements on the site.  I think I got all the ones I could do at the moment and they should be aligned with the correct system.

So at least that update is done =)

My sincere apologies for the lenghty updates,  hopefully next semester will be a little lighter than the last!!

Enjoy and Happy Building all!!

Are you going to include data on kits that are no longer made, if the data is available? This might be helpfull to Ebayers for example.  Scientific and Sterling come to mind.

Adam - You can stop apologizing. :) It would take an anal DBA to do what you are doing and go to school and maintain a real life. I think you are crazy!! But your craziness is to our benefit. So if we have to wait...No Problem.

Hi Adam,

This Database has turned out great :) . Good job mate.

One suggestion (if it's possible) - can you add a Filter to sort the Ship's Names alphabetically? This would be helpful to a builder who wants to build, say, a HMS Victory to give him look at the different kits produced by all the manufacturers in one area of the Database.

If that feature is already there and I simply didn't find it, ignore this request :D .

BTW - "Golden Hind" was a Galleon, "Santa Maria" a Carrack or Nau, "Nina" and Pinta" were most likely Caravels ;) .

  Danny

Cheers, Danny

Really good idea, and it is something I thought about while formulating this plan.   Unfortunately I think that would be a fair bit daunting a task for me to take on at the moment.   That would certainly be valuable I agree, but the list I think would be quite larger than I could manage =(    Not off the table, just definately on a back back burner =)

Thank you Danny! Means a lot!    Regarding sorting names,  right now you should be able to click the headers on the columns and it will sort by that column. So if you wanted to sort by names just click the kit column and it will sort the current returned set.   I will be adding a free form search box where you can type in a kit name or part of a kit name and it will only show those kits so folks who only want to see Constitutions can get a succinct list of them as well as those folks who can remember only a part of a name (like me hehe) can hopefull find kits easier.

And big thanks for the ship types - some of them are easy to find and figure out, others are a bit confusing. Even doing a  search on the ship sometimes comes back with several different ones.  Will update those this week!!

-Adam
