As long as we have deadeyes, might as well start with the shrouds.  These are Morope

Your Syren looks amazing! I just got this kit, though won't be starting it for a while. Reading the practicum I often read the words "paint to look like wood" in reference to the Brittania parts. Can I ask what paint you used on the quarterbadges and stern decorations? I'm not exactly sure what finish might look most like wood....and your work on these parts looks great. Thanks for posting!

Augie, what can I say. Your Syren is awsome. I need to get back to my build. I've neglected her for too long now. I know the site admins won't agree with this comment because of all the headaches, but this fresh start is great. Clean slate for everyone. We can all help make MSW better than ever.

Thanks for stopping by Hamilton.

You're not going to be disappointed with Syren.  And it certainly looks like you've had more than enough experience at the bench.

Funny you should ask about the 'wood'.  It's one of the (many) things I could have done better.  I used the metal castings and painted using Model Master Enamel, the color designation is 'Wood'.  On the old site we had about 30 Syren logs and many took the time to actually carve the stern decorations and quarterbadges.  I have no talent for that.  Hopefully, someone will repost one of those magnificent logs.

I'll be looking forward to your log!

Thanks Bob.  That's quite a complement coming from a recent convert to the 'dark side'.  I wish I had your talents.

I truly hope we get enough of the folks back on board to make the new site outshine even the old one.  But man, those logs will be hard to replace.

Yeah, come on Frank.  There's new folks on here who never saw your weathered masterpiece Supply.  They are not going to believe that you even added banacles!

Thanks for the quick reply, Augie - I had to say I laughed when you said that that colour designation was "Wood" - of course!! I'll check out my local hobby shop to see if they carry this brand - I'm also not ready for carving - I might take a crack at a simplified quarterbadge, but I doubt this will come to much....anyway, keep up the great work here and thanks again!

OK, I don't know about you folks, but I'm all worn out on re-posting and looking at photos from the 18th Century.  So I finally got out of this chair in front of the PC and did some (minor) work.

Here's the latest.  The main topmast stays, backstays and preventer stays have been added.  Finally converting 'rope' into lines that actually GO somewhere is a blast!  I will be using Morope on everything with a diameter of .018" or larger, black for the standing rigging and beige for the running rigging.  I picked up on the idea from Frank (riverboat) and really like the beige.  The black, in my opinion, is not nearly as spectaclular.  It does handle well though, provided you remember to apply some thin CA before you cut it.  Otherwise it will unravel instantly.

Special note to Sjors------ No, I did not forget there are  shrouds and ratlines on the upper foremast.  All in good time, my friendim%20Not%20Worthy.gif

Augie,

Glad to see your Syren build log back online.  I have the Syren and am looking forward to starting to build this kit after I complete my Armed Virginia Sloop.  Your build will be definitely a guide for me to follow.  Keep up the good work and thanks for getting the pictures up so fast.

Sad part is my building skills stink but I had some good jokes

Feel free to recycle the jokes too Augie - at least no-one can say you're repeating yourself (and at our ages, we probably wouldn't remember anyway :D )

Hey Augie, I just noticed that the Syren build logs are now grouped in with the build logs for kits and not in its own section like before!

So you've been transferred in with all of us ruffians.

So glad your back mate, I expect to be enjoying the re hashed jokes immediately. Lol.
