Xebec 1:60 scale scratch build by mij - Finished

Recommended Posts

Hi Brian

The hundreds of hours I put into a model, I get great pleasure.

The cost is very low when you scratch build and the small return I get from the sale, The Admiral has half and my half gos towards tools and timber.

I get the pleasure in building and others get the pleasure in looking.

Regards

Excellent work and a stunning model Mij  B)  B) I am with you in that the decision to sell my models started originally with that I would need my own museum to keep them!Off the top of my head,I can't remember whether it is Bonhams or Christies, but one has a specialist maritime auction every six months. You may be able to realise more money at one of these.I know you don't do it for a living, but I am sure you would agree it would be nice to get as much as possible :) More wood, more tools ;) Are you planning on returning to Sussex now?(the ship, that is :D )Hopefully the glue unfriendly weather is behind us now :)

Kind Regards

Hi Nigel

I`ve always gone to Christies in the past, but Bonhams will be better for me, as I only live 19 miles south of Guildford.

I`ve enjoyed building the Xebec in the conservatory each evening, I`m with Admiral, so as long as I don`t make a mess, she is happy for me to continue my boat building there each night.

So the next model will be of the similar size to the Xebec.

I saw how you did your grating. Superior craftsmanship and I like the way you used exotics. Did you use the kit parts as a template to cut out in exotic woods? That is what it looks like to me. You taught me so much on this vessel. Since my grating is set to high at the stern and already glued I am not sure what to do. I will have to correct somehow....any advice??

You did very well and I am pleased you have taken your valued time to assist in my build.

Hi John

All I worked with was a set of drawings and everything was scratch built.

The carvings were my own design and were carved from box wood.

To loosen the grating area, try lifting the glued wood with a scalpel, But be very gentle.

Good luck

Hi. Sorry I can't address you by name, I can't make out whether it's mij or m with a character. Anyway, your scratch build of the Xebec is coming along just fine and I wondered if the record of my scratch build, logged in msw1, would be of use.

Very nice build - a very classy older warship

I will be staring to build my Amati Xebec in the next few months - I still have a lot left too do on my Occre Riverboat, but ,I am wondering if there are any English construction plans available and also, templates for the sail planfor the Xebec

Thank you

Don,

ANCRE has a monograph and plans for a Xebec:  http://ancre.fr/en/monographies-en/18-monographie-du-requin-chebec-1750-.html It's available in English.

Hi Mij,

I very much like the way you are building the modified Chebec after the basic Amati plan in scale 1:60   Well done !

I am also at the piont of building this ship and am in the preperation phase right now. The bought plan from Amati was though enlarged by 25 %, turning out the model length to 90 cm, and so then being in a scale of 1:48 instead

Very much liked are your carvings and the way you did these. Lovely the eagles and the bow figure head. I just came across your log by coincidense and wish you all the best with the further fitting out of this nice model for the case if it is not already completed at this time...... (the fore last post by Mark is over a year old...)
