Hi Garym, i watch your progress to SoS and it looks better than mine. I have problems with the scale of the bras parts, that seems to be a little biger. Do you have the same problems?

All the best Cristi

Hi Cristi,

I had the same problem and most of the metal decorative parts had to be cut down and adjusted to fit.

Hi Vince.

I look a lot to your building log to take some ideas, and it is a great help for me.

Also i look to Denis, Garim and other logs, and i say to all Thank you for posting, because it helps a lot everyone.

The instructions from the Mantua-Sargal are not very good.

Hope to finish well this ship, and think for the future

Edwin, thank you for the nice words. I was to the sea side, and now, "fresh" i will go back to my work, but hope to have time to work to SoS

  • 1 year later...

After a very long pause to my SoS, obliged by "repaint the house", after flooding of my house, some problems with the children and grandchildren, a very small holiday, and health problems with my mother in law, i came back, a little to my hobby

Started with small parts, to regain dexterity. Cuted some parts and sandingIMG_9914.jpg.1d8bbf1e4b8d32c7c21b3200c3d501a9.jpg

Also i made some small sanding tools.

I had to "sand" 84 beams for the deck

Hi Cristi, great to have you back and sorry to hear of the various issues you have had to face; I hope that all are well and truly settled down now.

Nice production line you created for your carriage assembly - a very nice finished product to fit to the model.

Hi to all, it seams that now part of the problems are gone.

One "small problem" is that i want and have to stay with the 3 grandchildren, and even i am "retired" from job, since the end of the year, i have just a few momens for me and my hobby.

I like to stay with the small kids (even now, i prepare to go with the smallest - 1.4 year to park and snoe), and hope to heve more time to work

regards to all and a Happy new year

Cristi

Hi Cristi,

Looking good.

I have been considering this kit for a couple of years. Just don't know if i want to build such a complex kit. However looking at your log i am getting closer to investing in it.

I will follow your build with great interest.

Hi Paul, it is an excellen kit (after you finish), but for the moment i work hard with

some problems with the brass parts. Some are bad finished ibn the kit, some are a little bigger (the scale is  a little different for wood parts and for bras)

Hope at the end to be ok.

Regards, Cristi

Hi Cristikc,

I remember the problems I had with all of the metal fittings when I built her. I had to cut many of them down and even had to move some of the hull trimmings in order to get them to fit. It all worked out in the end but required a lot of patience along the way.

Looking good.

Hi Vince, i remember the log you had, and also Denis had the same problem.. i  understood that for wood they made a new cutting plan, tat is a little smaller..

We have to build, as we can, and hope to have good results.

It is a pitty because the price of this kit is high

Regards Cristi

Don't know if this is a problem with Mantua kits. But I have the same thing with the brass scrollwork on my kit. It took quite a bit of filing to get the parts to fit. Luckily I don't have a lot of brass decoration for this kit. But as you so rightly point out we pay a lot of money for these top end kits and should not expect these problems.
