After the Brazzera, I think...I mean why hurry when I can live the Victory journey vicariously through your superb build?

Happy new Year!!!

I have started with the beakhead. I was most frightened of this part of my model. And - I really hate it, when I am right - it is the most difficult part so far.

I had problems to understand the instructions. This forum with all of your posts and pictures really helped me much. Thank you for that !!!

I decided to not use the parts in the kit, because I did not like the look of the wood or the parts did not fit. Of course that is my own fault, because I changed too much and builded things in my own way using different woods and no color.

Please take a look at my pictures and tell me what you think. I am looking forward to your comments.

A great new year and much success for your modeling!!!

Greetings Heinz

Wishing you and your family a happy and heathy 2017. Your standard has been excellent throughout your build. As for your beak head the quality of your work just continues to be very impressive, and your build and log are joy to follow.... Best regards DAVID

Hi Heinz, just so many things to admire about your craftsmanship. Such a pleasure to follow your work. Listen, this is probably a dumb question but you didn't explain anywhere (that I can find) how you fashioned your gun port hinges to follow the contours of the wales where they intersect the gun ports. They look just great. But what material did you start with and did you simply bend them to follow the contours?

Happy New Year,

Ian

Thanks a lot for your likes and the nice compliments!

@ Ian:  I am not sure if I really  understand you right, but I try to answer you:

I have not taken the sheet hinges from the kit. My hinges are made of wood strips  0,5 x 2 mm. So there was no problem to cut them in the way I needed them. One piece thrusts up to the wale; the next piece is on top of the wale. Some nails, an eyelet and an old chain link ... all colored with black metal color... finished.

I don´t made good experiences with the sheet pieces from the kit. Mostly when I cut them out of the frames, they are kinked and bent. And it´s very difficult to glue them without to mess up everything around. But maybe it´s only a lack of my craftmanship ... :-)

I hope this answered your question. If not... please write me again. I do my best to help you!

Hello  to all my friends and happy Eastern!!!

It's time for a bigger update because I have not posted any new photos for some time. I think I have to split it in two separate posts.

As you can see I have finished the bow of my victory.

I thought a lot about how I could make the nets on the sides. I even started to knit and crochet. But that did not work well. Then I cut an old fly screen. Unfortunately, the result looked like plastic. In the end, I built a framework of nails and knotted a net. You can see it in the photo. I still think it looks strange. Maybe I'll do it again sometime ...

Then I continued with the side entrance and the steps, as well as the fenders. The prefabricated parts did not please me once again. I just made them new from my own wood. This takes very very long time, because - sometimes - I have to do it 4 or 5 times until I like the result. But it is also incredibly much fun. What do you think?

I wish you all a nice Easter weekend!

Bye for now.

 Heinz,

I believe the words Wow, Amazing, Incredible, Fantastic, may all come into play here. Stunning work (oops another word I forgot in the list) . I have never seen the Victory looking better. great use of wood and looks good without the copper bottom which would spoil the way you have built her. The gun ports are outstanding. I half expect to see them spring open and the cannons pop out and deliver a broadside. Will follow this build with interest.

Robert and Ian, thank you so much!

I feel ashamed, as you exaggerate with your compliments.

I only try to do my best and use the prefabricated parts as rarely as possible. There are some things that I can not do and I can not find any solutions. Just in the bow there are places, which differ from the original. I am not satisfied with this, even if the result looks nice, it is not a copy of the original. And that's what it's all about in model building.

Therefore, my Victory is truly unique. But certainly not the best.

But I am happy,  if I can give some inspiration back. Because I get Inspiration from this forum for years!

Thank you all!!!

Hello friends,

I have started a new section on my model. In fact, I have attached small pillars that run on the handrail around the whole ship. As described in the instructions, I painted them black and connected them with a thin cord.

Then I started to make small nets. Here I had already gained experience when I made the nets at the bow. I knew that a lot of work would come to me. But what goes fast on this ship?

Today I finished the Poop Deck. The sides were very difficult, as they tapered towards the end. I therefore had to sew many small pieces together, but they cracked all the time and had to be glued again. I'm glad this part is now finished.

The other networks all have the same width. I have hope that this part is better and faster to manufacture.

But I like the result and am of the opinion that it is worth the work.

Many greetings and a sunny weekend!

Hello dear friends!

It's been a long time since I wrote a new post here. My dad got seriously ill at the end of last year, so I had to take care of him with my mother. He was hospitalized for 4.5 months and died on 22.01.18. During this time, I could not work on my Victory. Even then it was not possible, because I got two young cats (Kimba and Minka) in the middle of last year, which unfortunately ruined some parts of my ship.

In the meantime, I have renovated our cellar and turned it into a modeling-room. Now the two models (of me and my dad) are in a cat-safe room. However, my cats are still often there when I work on the model. But now, they are in control!

I'll show you some photos from last year that I have not posted yet. And then I jump into October 2018, when I started modeling again. First of all, though, I had to redo some parts ...

In the meantime I started with the jib boom. Since I do not want to use colors here, I had to buy new roundwoods. Unfortunately, my carpenter could only get me walnut wood, so that all masts and yards are kept in typical brown.

Unfortunately, it was not possible to get all woods in the right strength. So there is a lot of work to do, to mast the poles to the right thickness, to file, to sand ...

Of course I then had to come up with something with the metal bands. I made small wooden rings around the masts to simulate them. Unfortunately, I misunderstood the drawing / instructions and made too many of them ...

I do not know if it was a mistake to start directly with the rigging. But I thought that right now I could get along well everywhere. And maybe there is more stability for the masts.

At the moment I stopped the rigging and finished the jib boom. Could you give me a hint here, how I'm doing the best?

In general, I have to say that I am really scared of rigging. Not because of the work itself. I dare to do that. And I have the patience, too. But the plans are so difficult to read. The German translation is a gibberish and riddled with pseudo-technical terms. Although I have hardly started with the rigging, I realize that I lack a lot of experience here. I very much hope that my model will not be totally devalued or fail.

I wish you all a nice evening and look forward to your response!
