Hi Guys!!!! Im so Glad to Start my first Build log  in MSW

Well as some of you might know by now one of the several proyects i have in mind is the Jolly Roger ship also Re-named as the Chiken of the Sea, this version has been made into a model kit first produced by Disney and then by Revell with the name of "Caribbean Pirate Ship" but there are no blueprints available for this ship as far as i know and i have always been in love with how powerfull it looks

I think one of the problems with this ship is that is always Taken/Mistaken  for a tiny/weak/cartoony/Childish ship but there are several media where we can find that the ship wasnt as small or inoffensive

Actually i think lots of Disney Stuff are way creepier if you think about them deeply, includding the Peter Pan Story, so i will try to make Justice to the Ship keeping the Shape and Colors but with a Creepier and Realistic Approach, i want it to look as a huge and old ship, since its actually a really big ship
    take this illustrations as example

Jolly Roger on the left (just for size comparison between ships )

the kit that was made unfortunately is also Extra Small  so..........

I went nuts and tried something i have never tried before, i worked the whole night  ( from 6 pm to 5 in the morning ) i only took a break to have dinner but im glad to tell you guys im extremly near to have the whole set of blueprints fo the ship

What do you guys think? ill keep on working the whole day so ill try to post some pics of the blueprints soon

Ron.....You really must do a log.....dont be shy,  it would be a real treat to follow.  I know how inspired you have been and how much help MSW has been for your own model building progression....why not pay it forward?

    Tom,

I too bought a set of 1/64 plans from Chuck P (syrenshipmodelcompany.com). They are worth every penny! I'm planning on these plans being my early Winter start-up project. I also have been in-touch with Alex, but not for several weeks.

I plan to build the POB “Camilla” (named sister ship to Sphinx) and a considerably more interesting history than all the other as-built ships of her size. The research I've been doing on this specific ship for the past couple months is fascinating (her service logs, the captains, numerous actions/campaigns - how about more than 45 known "prizes/captures" and a service life of nearly 55 years); her action history is especially meaningful for a Connecticut Yankee.

I do plan to do a full hull plank but leave partial quarter & f'ocsle deck reveals on some beams/framing ala' Alex's approach here. I also plan to fully rig her. Alex's photos will be very helpful; however, I wouldn't anticipate that he'll be able to offer much timely guidance on a detailed build question - at least, I'm not anticipating that kind of interaction. His English is better than my German (but not by much!). And he's got other fish in the fryer-like many of us.

Alex's plans are superb (8 large “D-size” engineering drawings including full masting/rigging), the best I have seen thus far in this hobby, period. They are complete, precise, and detailed in extremis; one could build a fully-framed model if one wished - including all the below-deck gubbins.. It's POB for me -per Alex's own personal build nicely detailed in this thread.

For reference, the Sphinx plans (in both 1/48 and 1/64 scales) are the equal to fellow MSW master builders Ed Tosti's (Naiad), D. Antscherl's (Swan) and A. Yedlinski's (Euryalus) in my opinion and considerably better than any Hahn or Corrothers plans I've also had opportunity to study. The NMM in London also has a reasonable number of extant prints available on several of the Sphinx Class ships built in this small frigate, post-ship category.

I will NOT likely do a Build Log here for Camilla, but I may change my mind as I get into the project. Worst case I will post "progress pics" as I tackle this beautiful, small but effective 18th-C Royal Navy workhorse "enforcer." Even at 1/64 (I did consider 1/48), fully-rigged she is going to be quite large and there are only so many spots left...I'm certain many here will know the problem exactly!

Thanks RB.....my kids and grand kids seem to get a kick out of Papa's little ships....especially the three boys. They each have staked their "claim" on their favorite. I am wisely leaving it up to my son and daughter as to who gets what after I eventually sail off into the sunset.... Not getting into that little debate....hahahaha

We haven't heard anything from Alex in several months. I hope everything is all right.

If you peruse Chuck Passaro's site, Syren Model Co., you'll discover that you can buy a set of Alex's plans for this model, which I did, in 1:64. I was hoping to use Alex's log as a mini practicum and certainly an inspiration for my own improvement.

Incidentally, Alex's plans are first rate, and Chuck puts them out on good, heavy paper.

Things are moving along faster than I expected...probably because I had a lot of time to work on it this weekend. I filed the filler blocks and the support blocks on the keel, and first planking looked ready to go, so I laid the first two strips.

My first posting of my Mayflower #2.... 1/60th scale.
Decking progress, as seen here, is moving along fairly well.  Tree-nailing for two days now.  The only thing more repetitive would be tying clove hitches....right?
The stern view....I wanted to get a little flavor of working at the larger scale.
As for my continued progress on the smaller scale Mayflower #1.... will take a shot at tying in some ratlines to the top shrouds tonight.  Should be interesting since I haven't tied a clove-hitch in over two years.  Looking at some of my old builds, I kinda like the white line on black shrouds.  To me, the contrast really pops.

This is exactly what I was afraid of.  The 5/32 scale (1:77) simply will not allow me the detail I feel like I should be looking at.
Just finished installing the shrouds to the fore mast top..... used 3.5mm dead eyes and the scale doesn't work to my eye.

Been wrestling with this from the beginning....now, as much as I hate it, I know what I must do.

Now working on top mast shrouds using 3.5mm dead eyes....
Thought I might share this handy seizing jig for anyone interested.
Took me about 15 minutes to create this simple jig, using two wire stubs to secure the tiny deadeye on one upright and the second upright with a map pin used as belaying point to secure the two ends of the shroud nice and taunt whilst being perfectly seized.
