  1. It make me feel i should have included these details in my model. Looks great. The good news is that you will not have to include some or the difficult floor planks on the outer edge of the upper deck.
  2. I went to look at some old tools and came away with a lovely selection of Sphinx drills, centering tools, reamers etcc.
  3. To simulate corking you can use black paper stuck between the two planks or in my case i use a soft pencil to colour the joint which makes it look like scale corking.
  4. I was still getting slipping issues so had to modify the tips by removing the screws and adding sand paper. That solved the problem. Then made up some extenders that lay flat on the deck and allow further reach. Now its doing what i hoped it would do.
  5. Coming along nicely. I might have softened the edges of the post a bit. It is always a difficult decision as in miniature sometimes it is better to leave them sharp to show the detail. Looking great.
  6. I have developed a new long reach clamp. It is evolving. I added a 2mm allen key bolt at the bottom which made a big difference.
  7. Made a very small angle gauge to measure the angle on each plank. I had made one along time ago but i guess it was so small it disappeared. The screw came from a broken pair of glasses.
  8. I was able to work out the curve by putting a french ruler on the previous plank and then transfer this to the new one.
  9. Thats what i have been doing. Got the port side done but was wondering if there was a better way to do this. Its a real pain in the butt. Ill tackle the starboard side tomorrow.. Once i get the first layer in the curves can be replaced with straight lines which will be mush easier to fit.
  10. Any advice for shaping these upper deck planks???? Particually at the bow and stern where the .plank is curved on the inside.
  11. Alan i am very envious of your thickness sander. It is one of the last expensive tools to be purchased for my shop. I still have a Preac sander so cant justify replacing it as yet. But one day. The Byrnes table saw is simply the best small table saw in the world. There is nothing even close to it. kevin
  12. Moved the Proxxon xy vice to the work bench. Its much more stable now.
  13. My gauges also confirmed this morning that they were shipped.
  14. I have lots of their miniature tools and they are all great. I mounted the miniature vice on my existing work bench. I did not see the dogs. Ill have to check them out to see if they will work with the holes i already drilled. The miniature marking gauges are also back ordered to November. I Recommend them unconditionally . kevin
  15. Just made my first chain pump and having difficulty fitting it through the main mast partner hole. The book says the hole is 9” wide. I have opened the hole to 9” but this is the result. I am curious what you did. My instincts tell me to reduce the pump housing to fit the 9” hole. The second shot shows what happens when i pass it through a 10” hole. kevin
