  1. Thanks giantdog, just checked your build out, looks a great model, will take a better look at your build log in the morning.
  2. I am starting planking my hull of a Virginia 1819, this is my first time having a go at planking so little unsure what should occur as I work it, I have read some of the information on this site but got a little lost so hoped it would become clearer as I started it. I have enclosed a picture of the two guide rails. I first fitted the top rail to give me the 5mm gap required from the deck to the top of the first hull plank for fitting of the bulwarks, I then started in the middle of the ship and places the lower rail with a 20mm gap to allow 4 planks to be fitted in-between. My concern is how much the gap closes up at the bow of the ship, I used a set of plank bending pliers to help it follow the shape of the hull and this is where the planking wants to naturally lie, just wanted to make sure this looked right to the more experienced builders or have I made a school boy error? Many thanks for any advice.
  3. Great, thanks for letting us know Can't find anything like it on the web in the UK so will have to try and make something up. I look forward to the rest of your build, something I will look forward to building myself in time to come
  4. Looking great. What is the name of the items you are using to connect the side of the ship with while glues dry and where did you get them. Struggles to find any online in uk shops
  5. A few more pictures of my progress, I have the planking to do next which I am a little apprehensive about.
  6. I have got what tools I think I need to start so here it a few pictures, I dried fixed before gluing. My next job is the decking planks, I need to look up how to do that first to get the best results.
  7. That looks a challenging first build, I have opted for a very much smaller model to start on which is the Virginia 1819 kit by Artesania Latina. looking good though and look forward to the progress updates
