    Richard, I'm afraid I'm in a bit of the same position as you, and so won't be much help. However, I am also a Software Engineer (going on 40 years) and so I'll be very interested to see what you come up with. Nothing like this occurred to me. One of the complications (at least from looking at the plans for the HM Yacht Chatham that I am working on as my first build) is that some of the lines start tied off somewhere, and then mid line they go through a series of blocks/tackle, line sizes change, and then the tackle goes some where while the end of the line goes somewhere else. I'd post a picture but I don't have the plans with me at work. To me, this would imply 'virtual' starting/ending points and possible splits. An interesting problem. Brian.
