  1. With all the talk about miniature rope, how it's made and what it's made of, I still need to know how to measure the finished product. With all the different size threads, how do you respond to a plan that calls for rope scaled to .008, for instance. I have no problem converting 1:1 to any scale but how do I know when I have achieved the desired size. I have top of the line calipers and micrometers but don't they have a tendency to crush the rope? Everyone seems to talk of sizes as though there's something I seem to be missing out on.
  2. I built the Mamoli Surprise as far as the gun deck and have stopped at that point. I'm trying to figure out how to rig guns to metal gun port frames. Really disappointed with this kit so I ordered the AL Surprise from Amazon and currently in the process of building the frame. Much happier. It may sound silly but you can eliminate a lot of the confusion on the wood issue if you count the pieces and then label them yourself. It isn't foolproof but it will help,
  3. You probably wouldn't be asking if you have had a lot of experience with hull planking so I would suggest you use the suggested conventions for both. Nothing like doing it to realize where you need to concentrate your efforts. Remember, the second planking is the one everyone will see.
  4. I have the book but it doesn't have deck arrangement and although the lines are shown, there is nothing that can be used without extensive copying. Like I said before, we have the plans for the rigging and masts and spars. It's the profile and deck sheet that we need.
  5. Hard to determine scale, nothing printed that we can see. We have built the hull to the deck level since the constructions plans and parts made this pretty straight forward but from that point forward it's pretty much guess work. The deck is 16 5/8" though.
  6. Looking for a little help on an old Artesania Latina kit "Scottish Maid". I've had this kit in my stash for about thirty years and have even forgotten where it came from but my grandson has decided he wants to build a wooden ship and he discovered the kit while digging through the stash. It's pristine but old and is no longer available that I could find. AL doesn't respond to my inquiries so this forum seems to be my last resort. We have two sheets of plans but there is obviously at least one sheet missing. We have the sheets depicting the construction steps and the mast, spar and rigging sheet. There has to be a sheet of the profile and the deck arrangement, I would think. Anyway, if anyone can help solve this little conundrum, I would certainly be willing to defray any costs involved. Hard enough to get kids interested in something non-electronic as it is and he is chomping at the bit.
