Hi Chuck,
Mary said to contact you and maybe you could help or direct me to someone that could help me
I have a wooden model ship I would like to build but it didn't come with any instructions, It is the Dikar- Roger B. Taney Revenue Cutter Baltimore Clipper wood kit Ref.651 1:54 scale. I would like to see if anyone has a set of instructions for it or knows where i could find a copy, or a similar Balitmore Clipper ship in the same scale I could maybe use ? The company no longer exists .
Thanks Dale

i made some flags using the ink jet printer on gift paper method I recalled from you. They look great from both sides. Can’t find it now but would like to know if you sprayed them with sizing or something similar.
thanks -
Is there any way the Admiralty Workshop can be made available on YouTube so those of us across the pond can enjoy? -

I signed up/paid to get plans for Winnie. Considering building the Winnie. Read a lot of the build logs. Confused by the scale postings on build logs. Some list 1/4 others list 1:48. Are these the same build or is there truly 2 different scales? Without completely reading every page of build logs have there been any issues with the cherry? I read one log where the builder started in cherry but later started over again in boxwood. Thanks

Chuck, I have a question for the administrators. I am starting the research on my next project and would like to start a build log with my research findings even a couple of months before I actually start the build. My research now consists of the historical findings and the generation of the plans for the model. Please advise. Thanks in advance

Hey Chuck was just looking at your blocks and trying to figure out your process. If you recll you gave me the Winne "laser" files to create my own bulkheads and strongback with a CNC. Indeed it was a learning experience! Yours It would seem to me would be executable with an X, Y, Z axis cnc but would benefit with the 4th axis of rotation. You don't have to spill the beans but is that how you pulled these off?

Thanks for the reply. Do you find any scale problems with Amati? Another builder mentioned he has when he built the La Pinta. He mentioned in the two Amati kits he has now, he found problems with scale and variations in quality of materials and directions. One had good materials but poor directions. The second was vice versa. Odd. I would think QC would ensure repeated consistency in directions and materials.

I have about 70 ship modeling books that I’d like to sell (see attached list -- Blandford & Pandora just sold). All are in very good condition and I’ll sell them individually, in groups, or as the whole lot. Might any of the Modelshipworld members be interested? Or, if not, do you know of any other groups or persons who might? I have researched each title’s individual price on eBay or Amazon within the last three weeks, so my asking price is based on that. I selected the lowest price for each specific edition, usually, but not always, without including the shipping costs. However, the final sale price is negotiable. I ask that any buyers cover the cost of shipping.
What do you think?

They are both very interesting lists of Books. The issue is that you need a certain number of posts on MSW to list items for sale. This is done on purpose to make sure that folks know the members who are selling the stuff. I doubt our members will be very interested no knowing who you are. They are very leery of taking a chance because in the past they have been scammed etc.
You have been a member for a long time. I do wish that you had been more active over the years as this wouldnt have been an issue. I would suggest that you start to take an interest and post on various logs etc before you attempt to sell them here.

Chuck:
a quick Confederacy question.
when thinning bulwarks to 1/8 “ at the top, what should I aim at at the deck level so that everything works out for interior planking, deck planking, framing etc.thanks in advance.

As a newbie, not to seem too stupid about it, but you refer to Build Logs, but using search renders nothing and I’ll be darned if I can find another link in the menu. A like would be very helpful, if possible.
Thank you,
Jim

Ahh!!! A build log is a topic that out
r members start that details their progress on any particular model.
If you go to the main forum page, and scroll down a bit you will see an area for for folks to start these. There is a bar that reads “member build logs”. There are two forum areas under this. One for scratch models and another for models being built from kits. They are broken down by era based on the date your model was built and launched. We have thousands of such build logs on almost every kit. And a thousand more for scratch built models.
click this link
https://modelshipworld.com/forum/9-members-build-logs/
then click on any era to reveal the many build logs.

Chuck,
I know that you designed the Model Shipways kits of the USS Essex and Continental Frigate Confederacy as Admiralty models. Is there enough in the kits to build them not as Admiralty models but rather fully rigged and planked models?
Thanks!

Good day Chuck. I am a interested in building a wooden ship/boat. What ever I choose will be my first build. The reviews I have read on MSW on some of the Billings beginner kits lead me to think that their instructions are lacking and some of the wood not off the best quality. I have been following the Medway long boat on your feed, and with the tutorials you provide I believe that this is a project I could handle. Your opinion greatly appreciated, and how would I go about purchasing a kit? Bob
-
Thanks....but I dont think it would be an easy first project....it is a pretty advanced kit even though it has thorough instructions. There are some topics already on the site about what would be a good first kit.
If you think you would be a careful and slow builder I would say go ahead. But this longboat is a very delicate and complex build....mostly until you get past the planking. Once you have the hull planked then yes it is a very easy project to complete.

Hello Chuck:
I just joined the Winchelsea project. I will try my hands with the scroll saw but will buy the rest of the laser cut kits for her. I followed your recommendation, and got aircraft 8 boards of 12 x 24 1/4" triply.
looking forward to follow your build

Forgive the silly question: For the Ship Model Society of New Jersey, is the next meeting on the 26th?

Thanks for shipping my orders so fast!
Just ordered a scroll saw and need to know what thickness of plywood and how much is needed for the bulkheads etc.
Thanks - RBohlman

Thanks for the reply. I can't say I'm a total beginner. I've built the Armed Sloop Virginia, the Ranger, Thames Launch and am currently about 2/3 into the Panart Armed Launch. I've also built about 10,000 stick and tissue airplanes (at least it feels like 10,000).
When I view the work of members on this site I'm not nearly as skilled but at 75 I keep trying!
What's the next step?.....Moab/Allan

Hi Chuck
Its me again 😅... sorry to bother you, but it seems I got a new problem. I try to change the title of my last thread ("Wind blow Amati Bireme...") but it doesnt let me. I can edit all other posts of that thread.

I downloaded the full build Triton in January of 2017. I have been going through the file list of the Triton full build drawing list and have found that several of the drawings are missing. Is there a way that I can get the missing PDF's for the build. Missing are belfry layout, binnacle, capstan details, capstan layout, wheel. 9poundercgn and carriage, stem 48 1, tapered keel, alternate aft deadwood, taffarel rev1,rudder, and rudder iron work. These are the ones that I don't have. Can you help me out??

Unfortunately they were lost in the crash. Several are on the database site however.

Chuck, i support the ban on illegitimate and ripped off kits. Everyone deserves to get paid for their work.
may i suggest to just amend the first post? It is getting too many pages with amends. Perhaps all the talk could be archived, with a link to the chat for those who want to read it in the first post.

What happened to this website. I haven't been there is a few month and most of what I enjoyed is either gone or incomplete. There are pages with nothing an them. Am I missing something?
