    Was curious if there are any members in the greater Puget Sound (Washington State) area. I would really like to have someone to build with or share knowledge and ideas or techniques with to help me in pursuit of this hobby. I’m a newbie but I have a bit of model building experience. Please let me know if anyone would like to have a building partner. It would help me enjoy the hobby more. Thanks

    I truly enjoyed your posts. Very interesting read. I recently purchased this kit and will be using your post as reference. I like your idea of wood hull versus copper. You mentioned many times that you wished you had smaller three than .008. Any recommendations as to what size would work better. Any other recommendations on what to use in terms of different material versus what is provided in the kit?

    I was wondering what the standard sizes are for standing and running rigging for a 1:96 scale clipper ship and a 1:48 scale privateer. Also from whom can you purchase this material ? Any guidance would be most helpful. Thank you

    Now I'm confused on what to do. I was really thinking the Proxxon would work for me but now I'm thinking that the Sherline might be smarter to get since it has more capability and more accessories. Only drawback is the increased expense.

    I have some questions about the Proxxon: 1) Are ther aftermarket cutters that will work with Proxxon? 2) Can the Proxxon handle wood like 1/4" aircraft lite plywood? 3) Size of work piece. Would the Proxxon be able to handle plywood piece that is 3" x 6" x 1/4"?

    Thanks for all the great info. Sounds like both units are good purchases depending upon what the scope of work is. Just a matter of how much one wants to spend.

    Thanks Mike. That was the kind of feedback I was looking for. I noticed in your Cromwell build you had several pictures that showed some work with the Proxxon. I have been leaning that way but I also saw that some members used the Sherline because it had more capabilities and you have more options for accessories. I build model airplanes as well and I have a shop area so I may go with the Sherline. I was hoping to hear pros and cons from some of the members on the Sherline. Keep up the beautiful work on the Cromwell. I love reading your posts and seeing your progress. You truly are a craftsman.

    Any thoughts on a decent min mill brand/model to aid in ship building? I've seen mention of a Proxxon mf70 and a Sherline model 5400. Any input would be most welcomed.

    Thanks for the feedback. Interesting link to a bunch of pictures of modeler's work areas. I hope to take some ideas away from what was provided.

    We are in the process of having a new house built and I have a new workshop location dedicated to building wooden model ships. It is "L" shaped one leg being about 8' x 13' and the other leg being about 6' x 16'. I would really like to see some pictures of model workshops that other builders have so I can get some ideas of how I could best layout my workshop. Would really appreciate you all sharing any pictures you may have of your work areas. Thanks
