  1. Welcome Tyler - I'm also in Ontario and currently building the AL Hermione. Let me know if you have any questions about the kit if you're still leaning towards it.
  2. Looking forward to following along. And maybe motivate me a bit to get mine moving again...
  3. Looking really good! And nice workbench as well. With winter coming I think I'll finally get back to my Hermione as well. Looking forward to seeing your progress.
  4. Thanks for all the responses and photos! Lots to consider....luckily I've got some time before I get to the stage of needing to make that decision.
  5. Does anybody build without completing the masts and leave their model as a "hull only" display? Building the Hermione currently and trying to understand how big it might be fully rigged and if there's any other options. Obviously there's a ton of space saved by building the hull only, but is it outweighed by missing out on the rigging? Clearly subjective but I'm still interested in hearing opinions. Thanks!
  6. Looking forward to watching this! I used the pencil nails on mine, looked alright once varnished. Tough to find something that looks really good at this scale. On my last boat I used a mechanical pencil with the lead removed to dent in nail heads into the planks. Neither were perfect, but both ended up not terrible. Looking forward to see what you end up doing.
  7. Wasn’t sure about using the stairs in the kit. Decided to do it. Not perfect… but not terrible
  8. It’s actually a bit of an illusion in the photo, I haven’t trimmed down the top plank yet, so once I do the bowsprit should drop down into place. Good eye though, feel free to point out anything else that looks off!
  9. Here’s where I ended up with it. Just used leftover rail that was already profiled and painted. Not exactly what they are supposed to look like, but close enough.
  10. Thanks for the heads up Peter! I'll check the stairs that came in my kit. I'm also running into the issue where the cap rails on the bow don't even come close to fitting. I saw on your build log you had the same problem and had to make them from scratch...guess I will be doing the same.
  11. All the work just to cover most of it up.... I also cut off the top of the frames prior to putting the deck on, seems like a much easier way to do it.
