About Me

I'm a retired Bethlehem Steel Shipyard employee - Yard closed (for me) in 1989 where I was managing a CAD system in CTD (Central Technical Division). My tenure, started in 1968 in the Computer Section of CTD where I was mainly programming a DAMAGED STABILITY analysis in FORTRAN on punched cards.   Assisted, in a minor way, the "ways" launching of several ships and supported numerical control burning of plates primarily via the shipbuilding software called AUTOKON, a Norwegian System of the 1970s. Follow-on work was in computers in the HealthCare field. Always had interest in ships, which has manifested itself in the collecting for the larger Ocean Liners during and post-Bethlehem Steel.  I owe my interest in Liners to a shipyard friend Lowell Himmler who I have no idea where he is once he moved to Montana in the 90's. I joined here to mainly follow the model world and hopefully learn where some of my missing model pieces can be found or reproduced.

About the NRG

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model shipcraft.

The Nautical Research Guild puts on ship modeling seminars, yearly conferences, and juried competitions. We publish books on ship modeling techniques as well as our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, whose pages are full of articles by master ship modelers who show you how they build those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you what details to build.
