  1. Thanks or the poke. I finished up to chapter four and am in the middle of a move to Portland OR. The longboat is safely packed while we find place to live. I am looking forward to the opportunity to make a new boat room. I have the small sherline inspired CNC mill running which was useful in building some jigs and the taig lathe which finely got some use turning down the little longboat parts and some spars. I was really afraid of the metalwork so it took me some time to drill the holes around the mast support and test the limits of blacking. It would be nice to have a way to display finished projects so I can finish this boat and rigging the Swift/bounty projects and start thinking about the next build.
  2. I am using an acrylic paint for the cap rails. I did not like the look over the wipe on poly surface so I sanded out the roughness and tried again. The inboard knee is next. After everything is filled and painted I will finish the profile of the edge. I like the wipe on poly but I am worried about how the mineral spirts will attack the paint or printed frieze. Any tricks for sealing these? I am making a test piece.
  3. Thanks for the support. I am finishing chapter 3 and moving to the internal details as I get parts in the mail like extra fishing line for nails.
  4. Beautiful work. Thanks for the link for the fishing line. The 0.010 loop in the kit JUST made it through the outside hull with scraps left over. Having enough to do the whole hull in one pass is a winner. I am am looking for the red paint like “Utrecht Crimson” and metal darkening products locally and striking out. Feels like a basic question but it has me stumped. Thanks in advance, looking forward to your progress in part 4.
  5. Can I trouble you for a picture of the tube? It looks like there is an acrylic and oil version with multiple product lines. Thanks in advance.
  6. Dear Chuck, Thanks for cranking out the kits as fast your suppliers allow. Do you have an ETA on the longboat rigging kit? I really like the look of the new rope. Is this going to be an option for the rigging kit? Thanks in advance.
  7. Thanks for the support Chuck. I was using the bow end as delivered and taking all of the length off the joint end. Tonight I went the other way and was able to substantially close the gap. Thanks to the tick lines I knew I was drifting. I should think about getting paint and wood filler. Is this something you sale? That new rope is attractive.
  8. The first 6 rows are in and 3 to go. In looking forward, the last row is about 1/16” shy at the bow. I have marked out/lined off the planks and used the templates. I started with the garbord in the place it wanted to go and and the gap is getting bigger as I go. Image is is from the guide and has the correct fitting. I was hoping that the horizontal cap would be a part but the planks are shown flush. Should I just remake a plank pair, offset the outside layer, or not worry and carry on. Thanks in advance.
  9. For the pencil marks, are you just using a number 2 pencil? My marks are much lighter than those in the guide.
  10. Right you are. Down by the keel is so much worse. I will modify my planking span and try again. If you are able to make a 9 plank span and update the download section that would be nice anthough that’s kinda like cutting a tape measure at 5’ because that is all I need right now.
