  1. Thanks all. Yes, as far as the flag goes, I think a little leeway was given to historical correctness the 20th state as Chris mentioned is most likely the reason. The first stern wheeler was built around 1814 18 states, Mississippi became a state in 1817 20 states, after which the number of states raised quickly so there, we have it. To be honest as this build was mainly as good platform to learn the lighting process, I did not do too much research. So I complexly missed it.
  2. Completed The Mississippi paddle wheeler. This build was mainly about learning how to wire and use lighting. The build itself was straight forward and fun to do. The real challenge was the lighting, which was new for me. Much trial and error. Hiding & running the wiring required a different kind of planning following the written instructions for a step-by-step build was not possible all the time. The wiring termination points Aft starboard was a real test getting all 14 sets to connect into two 3-volt battery packs. All and all I believe the build came out all right. It was fun and I learned much.
  3. Rigging set ups complete, rope stations in, build is hitting the finale stage
  4. the starboard (Closed ) built with pillars & railings , Port side will only have a few for effect
  5. Making progress decided to add some old street type lamps for the out side areas again not taking this build to serious, trying different things and having some fun
  6. Have been working on several projects so the Mississippi has been moving slowing Tested the lights for the first & second decks only minor adjustments needed
  7. Working on the 3rd deck, my version of the bar room. If there's two things in the world I know about its the military and saloons. More to follow on this deck.
  8. 1st & Second deck almost complete. Need to install the lights on bottom deck before moving on. slow simple pace, playing around with different ideas, not really following any set instructions. Having some fun with this build
  9. Planked the second deck, 2 room areas with different planking, making more changes , starting to follow my own course
  10. Carl, hope all is well , I posted an up date on my just for fun riverboat build, on this site I go by MOG   Mike

  11. Updating the progress, as this is mainly a just for fun build , moving at a simple pace, experimenting with a few things along the way. Not really following the plans. Not a big fan of precast parts so I cover, replace, or toss as needed Have redid the doors & frames and the stage area. Did a makeover of the furniture, felt tops and wood strips attempting to give a used look? more to follow on the figures
  12. Just a quick mock up of the lower deck to get measurements & locations for the lights in this section
  13. Not very well I’m afraid, , I just do not like shaping & bending with this type of wood. Anyway I over soaked the strips, used strong glue and heat bended it to shape, steaming out the extra water helps form the shape, & seal the glue quickly, again 3 things this wood does not seem to like me for chipping & splitting is always a danger. early days
  14. First OcCre kit, basically a build with some good opportunities to experiment with. First impressions are it looks to be a well-made kit. Really like they have included just about all the hardware you need supplied in two nice compartmented plastic cases, very useful.. This kit supplies Sapelli wood for some of planking, not being a big fan of this type as I find it does not react well to heat planking of course it could be the builder also, in any case I normally don’t use it for planking, however I broke the bank,(really big time) on the PT105 build, so this build I have to make do with what I have and try to stay on budget ?? So the start basically a simple frame, false keel, deck work, plus double planking the small hull, single plank the flat bottom. decided to rough up the lower deck as its pretty much a working deck, did I mention the Sapelli thing

Thanks MOG Just a quick pic of my Ambulance I’m very grateful to Greg Krenzelok and U.S. ARMY VETERINARY CORPS HISTORICAL PRESERVATION GROUP and the 27th Infantry Society for displaying my work and telling my grandfather’s story.

Quick question will be starting the OcCre 1:80 Mississippi  in a  month or so , my guess is 22 mm scale figures, however HO, OO scale all seem to be  17:6 to 1:87 any ideas on the proper scale figures for this build

  18. Just shy of 2 years work, this my first attempt at the PT , I still have to trim out the edges , frame the box and build the case . My goal here was to depict a day in the life of the 105-boat moored at Todd City for minor repairs and resupply. Thanks to everyone for all your comments and support. Mike
  19. Finished the skipper, ok figure painting skills still needs some work on my part, however you only get there by making the effort
