  4. Martha

I have been striving to improve the quality of my builds for 2 decades. I suffer from the same frustrations many others have...that piece a bit short, popped strakes, creased copper plates and a careless, damaging swipe of the hand, etc. But I love this past time  and I am determined to achieve the level that I see in so many of your images.

I took a break from other ships when I saw this beauty. The kit is by Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum of a Drakeback crab boat. They were popular in the early 1900s as commercial work boats and survive today as pleasure craft.

  5. HMS Revenge

About the size of a Crayon, this model was built from on-line images.  Hull is solid balsa, sails are card stock and anchors, lanterns and flag staffs are wire.

  7. NewYork Pilot Boat

This is a slightly kit bashed model of the Phantom kit. I added a charging dog figurehead and changed the name to the Ruff Waters as a gift for my vet.

  10. Monitor

Styrene covered plywood and a tape tube made a pretty nice replica. Luckily the internet has a plethora of plans and photographs to use as reference. Interestingly the configuration of the ship changed enough over time to throw doubt into some drawings.

  12. Turtle - Korean Ironclad

Geobukseon, the Turtle, was a 15th Century ship that sported an iron, spiked shell over its top to defend against fire projectiles and boarders (can't fight if you're avoiding spikes).  This is a kit-bash of the Young Modeler 1/65 scale model. This model is sold as a two-deck and I added the third deck with a removable top.

  13. USN Picket Boat #1

This is the Model Shipways USN Picket Boat #1, a steam launch. it was built in 1864 and is noted for its attack on the Confederacy ironclad, Albemarle . Outfitted with a spar-torpedo, it charged the ironclad and jammed the torpedo into its side, sinking the ship

  14. Candelaria

Candelaria is a Spanish bomb vessel. They were used to lob ordinance over fortifications using large mortors.  This solved the problem of attacking forts with ship guns which shot fairly horizontally.  It meant that shots from ships guns primarily hit the fort walls, which in some cases could be 3 yards thick. Occre kit

  15. Chris Craft

This is a 1/8" scale model of the 1940 Chris-Craft Barrel Back by   Dumas. I added swim fins, scuba tank and other incidentals for a little realism.

This kit is of a flagship of the Spanish Armada.  It's a favorite era of mine. It displays a great deal of character which also appeals.

  17. Blue Nose

This Canadian Grand Banks schooner was the first kit I built. It is accompanied in its display by the Canadian dime depicting the Blue Nose.  The display also includes the Blue Nose postage stamp first-day-of-issue.  The ship is obviously a Canadian icon.
