  1. Very nice build. I grew up on Kent Island. My brother and Tilghman were close friends. When my brother passed, Tilghman took me and the family out on the bay near Kentmoor to lay my brother's ashes to rest. I'm not certain, but I believe Tilghman is now retired. BTW, I have a "Kent Island tuck stern" from Wye models waiting to be built.

  2. Outstanding!! I'm very partial to kits by Mamoli. The rigging plans are virtually idiot proof. I have four Mamoli kits waiting in the wings; Bounty, Rattlesnake, Constitution cross section, and a full size Constitution. I found all of these on Ebay for considerably less than full retail. Again, great work. Very well done!

An old method is to use a cutoff sharp end of a nail.  Drill a hole in the bottom end of the mast. Insert the cut end of the nail into the hole and have just enough of the point sticking out to seat into the "deadwood".  If you had cut the slot for the mast too deep, a longer piece of nail can be used to raise the mast a bit.

The size of the nail depends on how large of a hole is drilled into the end of the mast.

I use the pin method for securing yards to the masts. It never occurred to me to set the mast with a pin. Thanks for the tip.

  4. I'm new to the group and I come with a question/dilemma. I began building ship models in kit form back in the early 90's. I managed to complete five and have three more under construction. When I retired from the Air Force in '96, I put my hobby away to pursue my new career; furniture refinishing. Here it is 20 some years later and I want to get back into it and finish the models I started. One model in particular is the Rattlesnake by Mamoli. I have all of the fittings etc to finish it, but I can't find the instructions nor the full size plates. John at Model Expo was kind enough to send me the plates for the rigging, but I still need the rest to finish the hull and deck. Do any of you have those plans lying around? I will gladly pay for any costs incurred. Anyway, sorry for being long winded.
