  1. Hi Dave, I've been on extended shore leave and just catching up with builds. What a great build and thank you for sharing with all the detail that you've included along the way, it really does inspire and help us to see around the corners of the next steps in the build process. The completed model looks great and something to be very proud of - well done. Cheers, rowand.
  2. Greetings to All, Thank you for the kind remarks. It's been a while and the model is still in dry dock. I've had a couple of slow-me-down events since the last but we're moving forward and getting back on track. I thought that I should at least let you know that I haven't given up on the build. I had to put it aside for the moment but it will be underway again soon. I trust you're all well and your modelling is going ahead in leaps and bounds. Cheers, Rowan D.
  3. Hello All, Thanks for your patience and dropping by. I've attached some progress shots from the last 6 months, Trimming Channels were re-done, windows fitted to the hull and with the smaller windows, I didn't like the lumps of cast material provided in the kit so I etched and painted the outline of the windows into the hull and glued in some fake hinges, guessed the sacrificial anchor rub strips on the bow and started with the deck fittings... Have a great day and happy modelling. Rowan D.
  4. Hello Everyone, It's been a while since my last and I've been 'tinkering' with the model so my next post will have some pictures to go with it. I haven't made great progress but it's progress never-the-less. I shall report in with the pictures and in the mean time I hope all is well with your modelling projects. Cheers, Rowan D.
  5. Hi Pat, Dave, Paul & ca, and everyone else, It's pretty overwhelming to have support like this, thank you so very much for your good wishes. I didn't see this one coming, the problem disc was at C7/T1, so had an ACD&F procedure and home the next day. Wednesday will make it a week since surgery and I've already seen good improvement but might have to 'mask' the speedy recovery a bit to let the Admiral fuss over me a bit longer (risky, I know). I'm working with a squeeze ball to get the strength back into my hand as I've had muscle wastage there and need to re-build, but all is good and I'm happy. In my earlier post, I made a template to do the cut out of the port holes in the hull planking. I thought about not using the kit items then decided to proceed with them but needed to make sure that I didn't make the cut outs in the hull planking out of shape or the wrong size, so made up the template. I think it'll work pretty well. Next part will be to cut the slots for the Stb'd Channels and fit them, finish off the port hole windows and plan out the next steps as Dave said... I'm itching to get back to the model, so will let you All know how it goes... Again, thank you All so very much for your good wishes, Have a great day, Rowan D.
  6. Hi All, I thought it time to give you an update as while it might seem that I abandoned the build, I hadn't. The progress is that I have made the new Channels for the starboard side and I'm ready to cut the slots in the hull to fit them. I've also made a template to cut the windows out in the hull and all was going well up to that point. It was at that point that I had to lay the model up. An insidious problem crept up on me and almost over night I lost strength in my left arm and grip in my left hand. This was brought about by some 'pinched' nerves in my neck that hadn't made their presence known up to then. Happy to say though that following some excellent medical treatment, I'm on the mend now and while a full recovery is yet to be seen, I'm looking forward to being able to get back to the model in the not-too-distant future. I trust that you are all well and making great progress with your respective models. Have a great day, Best regards, Rowan D.
  7. Hi Chris, you're doing a nice job on your model, glad I stopped by to check it out. Keep it up Mate. Cheers, Rowan D.
  8. Hi All, Thanks for the kind words Gents. Sorry, no more pikkies for the moment. By way of update, I've been working on the forward Trimming Channel and just about got it right. It needed a little curve in it to match the curvature of the Rubbing Strake, so spent a bit of time experimenting on that. Job done - It looks pretty good and matches the curve of the Rubbing Strake so on to the windows. Have a good one and happy modelling, 'til next time. Rowan D.
  9. Hello All, Well the e-mail issues are sorted, Telstra is the provider and they changed some settings without notification. Now that it's all sorted, I've posted some photos following on from my last ....
  10. Hi All, I hope all is well at your end of the world. It's been a fair while since my last post but, I finally got the model out of dry dock and spent some time working on the Trimming Channels. I didn't like the way Artensania did their bit with the Trimming Channels so I've done it my way. Instead of gluing the Trimming Channels straight onto the side of the rubbing strakes, I re-manufactured the Trimming Channels with tabs that fit into slots that I cut into the side of the model and I'm really happy with the result so far..... However, right now I'm losing the plot as I'm trying to upload some photos but there are internet issues with my e-mail carrier that are preventing me from doing so..... Grrrrrrr..... So, as soon as they get them fixed, I'll post a couple of photos. In the mean time, I'll post this for now and get back to you soon. Have a great day and happy modelling. Rowan D.
  11. Sensational Dave, you are doing a beautiful job, Mate. You've put so much good info in your build log along the way too, thank you. Rowan D.
  12. Hi Boyd and All, Thanks for the good wishes, we had a great trip and I made it to see the Cutty Sark. That's an amazing exhibition, we were a little short of time so got around it at a fast trot. Even though short of time, I was very happy to get there to see it. Sadly, no work on the model yet, all the usual excuses are in play here and Christmas is fast approaching. Here's wishing you All a very Merry Christmas and wonderful and Happy New Year. Happy modelling... Cheers, Rowan D.
  13. Hello All, Sorry no progress to report, the model has been allocated to dry dock for the time being.... I did start on some research in to the next part of the build a while ago but I got side tracked when the Admiral got in to the final stages of planning a 'bucket list trip' to UK. It looks like I've been delegated the job of baggage control (I get to carry the bags). I've been dropping in tot he forum from time to time and really impressed with the builds and the level of detail. It's great to see and only inspires me (quietly) to get back to the model. Thanks and happy modeling All... Cheers, Rowan D.
  14. Really nice work Captain, you're light years ahead of my build and great to watch and learn and be impressed by the quality of the work. Have a good one... Cheers, Rowan D.
