  1. Well 2 months late but I finely got to work on it a little' Got it all faired. Don't know if I was in a noobee rush or what happened. The bow section was crooked hence the extra blocks. Gonna start the first layer of planking. I am kinda at a stand off with myself on doing the counter planking first and plank to it or visa versa any input is appreciated. Here are a few pics of my progress. Sure hope my anal retentiveness don't get me in the end. (scuzzz the pun} Its my 1st and sort of a practice one. Also got this after I saw it and mentioned it to my brother in law.Slipway from Hobbyzone. He said he has a ship somewhere I can have if he finds it Like the slipway still in the box.
  2. Absolutely a beautiful job love the way you worked thru it all.. really gonna get into mine next month.
  3. Would love to see some pics of you 70's BJ connie if possible.

I just got lucky and Got a 70's kit from a yard sale in WA for 10$. The hull is there clearly has been sanded some.lots of  wood, rigging and a box of metal  parts. deadeye's,blocks and stuff all in sealed packages. It was all in a uhaul box and belonged to his father that passed way.Anyway There is only sheet of plans and no instructions. So any pics would be helpful and awsome to see.It seems this is a little smaller in scale the the new one

Sorry, I missed that post until now.  I haven't tried to build it yet but I have more than one sheet. I also got the new plans from Blue Jacket with the intent on trying to update the old it. Are you just wanting to see what my kit came with?

I managed to get a Bicentennial edition instructions by Laurence Arnot no prints. It also had  broken scribed deck pieces  parts and wood from ebay from an abandoned build.According to BJ it had 3 sheets and an instruction booklet. Also got a cd from the navel museum all the real prints. So thats really cool. I think I can deal with it now but I wont be starting on it any time soon . Have to get to and finish the Independence 1st.Then I am just gonna go for it there is great build logs here an elsewhere.Hope to see yours here as well.

      Thanks for the response

  4. Thanks much Ken. I've just added stern and bow blocks to mine. Your masts and rigging looking great. Hope I get there soon before I forget reading all this good stuff and looking at all the great pics 😉
  5. Haven't given up.Just busy ;-) Been reading a lot of other build logs and seeing tons of ideas.Lots of talent and creative artistry here. I now own an extensive library of books Thanks Ebay saved hundreds of $ on used books. Also found an old Bluejacket constitution kit from the 70's at a yard sale But it has only one plan sheet 24x36. has lots of wood and a box with a lot of detail parts that was unopened. The hull looks like it has been sanded some from what I've seen from some newer unboxing vids for 10$. So I think I scored big time from the prices i saw for a BJ kit ;-).So i know what my next project will be.Have too see how to get some instructions somewhere.Noway with my knowledge of the hobby at this time to wing it ;-)
  6. Great work! Just to finish this kit it seems an accomplishment. Glad you got thru that planking. Looking forward to seeing your sails and completion I am going with silk span also. There is 3 weights at sig wich did you use? I do have one question for anyone that has completed this one .Did you plank the inside of the bulwarks before installing them. Getting ready to really get started on my independence. It will be my 1st ship model ever .Not counting the small water line ww2 ships I did in my younger years
  7. Nice job lots of good idea's to use on any model. Seems to me that all the kits seem to be lacking in the instruction department :-). I have looked and been through many different build logs form many different builds. I am glad they are short and instructions Lots of awsome builds out there
  8. Started my 1st ship. The Independence by Artesania Latina.I have been building models for ever and always wanted to do one. It was picked up from a secondhand store that was with a bunch of other stuff for $30.00 USD. To my horror but really no surprise the keel and bulwarks were gone. It almost went in the trash after seeing that awful transom plate and the price of a full kit. Thanks to DocBlake's build log and beautiful build and all the other logs I came across. I decided to buck up and get the full kit. No problem found a new kit and making templates for the missing pieces. So in the end I will have 2 of these to complete. It will be slow going for me. BUT I will finish at least one of them just because it took for ever to find anyone that completed this ship.So thanks all you never quitters. I dove right in and got off to a bad start but its salvageable. Got a few books and joined a lot of forums and have lots of good help. Looking forward to new online community friends and great talents to learn my way around the wooden ship world. It will be a few weeks till I can really get back to this got to get the garden in and a deck on the house. forgot to link to DocBlakes build here it is https://modelshipworld.com/topic/12895-independence-1775-by-docblake-artesania-latina-516-scale/

  10. Beautiful work. Thank you for finishing it and your amazing log. Almost gave up. It is my 1st ever build and your log gave me the kick to keep it from the trash. Funny about that stamped metal part. It spoke a lot about how disappointed I felt about the kit. Would love to see this link but it is 404 .Any way to retrieve it? http://www.shipsofscale.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=52&t=539
