  1. Hi all, Well that is the Bowsprit completed, not fully tied down yet but will be during my next session. Here are three shots of the Bowsprit to show you where l am now. On my next session l will tighten up all the Running rigging and tie off, apply diluted wood glue to each knot and start making some rope coils. Best wishes as always. The Lazy Saint. Session. Time. Total. 57. 3 hrs. 195.
  2. Hi all, You are welcome Emmet, l am glad they helped. A little more done today, l don't seem to have advanced so much today but that is because l plucked up the courage to tie up and cut off the loose ends. Here are a few shots to show my advance today. l hope to finish the Bowsprit on my next session (haven't l already said that once before) l also need to start preparing some rope coils asp, certainly before l advance much further. Best wishes as always The Lazy Saint. Session. Time. Total. 56. 4 hrs. 192.
  3. Hi Sgt_Hoser, I like the arrangement of the Deadeyes on your kit, it is more in keeping with reality. My Mantua kit only has provision for seven, and all the same size. I suppose at these small scales the various manufacturer's have used "poetic license" l shall crack on with the instructions as is, after all, l am not building a museum piece. Keep up the good work. Best wishes as always, The Lazy Saint.
  4. Hi Sgt_Hoser, What a great job you are making of this model, well done to you. I am very pleased to see you have started/posted you work, its great to see. The difference between the two kits is quite surprising l think. I shall be watching with great interest the development of your rigging. Best wishes as always, The Lazy Saint.
  5. Hi Derek, Another great session for you. Your hinges and ring bolts are extremely good. Well done you. Best wishes as always, The Lazy Saint.
  6. Hi all, Thanks very much for the kind words chaps, they are very encouraging indeed, as are the likes. Hi Sgt_Hoser, l haven't completed all the Standing rigging for the Bowsprit yet but l will try and fit in a couple of extra pictures of today's session for you, l hope they help. I had said l was taking a rest day today, l was planning a fishing or birding trip but it was so rainy first thing l decided to crack on with the build. I concentrated on the Bowsprit, mostly the Standing rigging but also a section of Running rigging, for variety. 🤣 First up are several shots of the Bowsprit Standing rigging for Sgt_Hoser, l hope they help. By the way Sgt_Hoser, how about setting up a build log of your Victory, l would love to see it. I am sure it would help. Here are two shots of the Running rigging for two of the Forward Stays. l haven't tied off any of my running rigging yet, l like to make sure it is all nicely tightened first. Also, l am very nervous of that task as, once it is done, it's done. Any errors would mean starting again. Having said that, l am running out of my mini pegs. And finally, this is where I am now. During my next session l should be able to complete the Bowsprit rigging, with any luck Best wishes as always, The Lazy Saint. Session. Time. Total. 55. 3 hrs. 188.
  7. Hi Richard, One of the things I find most amazing about your build is how crisp and sharp your woodwork edges and corners are. How do you manage it🤔 they are fantastic. Mine look like they have been chewed by an angry Beaver. Actually, you don't have to tell me how you manage it, l know, your woodworking skills are absolutely superb. Well done you. Best wishes as always, The Lazy Saint.
  8. Hi all, I was fully intending to call it a day at lunchtime, however, after a quick snack l was unable to resist another session. I concentrated on the Fore Mast and Standing Rigging. First image is of the Fore Topgallant Yard fitted with lifting tackle. Second image showing the same but for the Fore Topmast Yard. Once again, this time for the Fore Yard. To images showing the Royal Backstays, both Port and Starboard. The final shot is of where l am now. Phew, a busy day today, but quite productive. I will need a break tomorrow, don't want to finish it in one go, do l. 🤣 Best wishes as always, The Lazy Saint. Session. Time. Total. 54. 4 hrs. 185.
  9. Hi all, Thanks Derek, to be honest, l haven't thought that far ahead. I expect it will live on a shelf in the Grand children's room. Some models on this site are fantastic and fully deserve to be housed in a dedicated display case, l do not consider my Victory to be one of them. Today's session went well l am pleased to say and l am happy to announce the appearance of the first of the Standing Rigging. But first, another seven Blocks. The next shot shows the (temporary) fitting of the Royal Backstays. I have done this to try and achieve the correct lay of the Chainplates. l then marked the position of the Chainplate bolts. l duplicated this task with each pair of Shrouds. The next picture shows the fitting of the Deadeyes and Chainplates to the bolts fitted to the Hull. These will be painted black in due course. The Deadeye on the Port side Royal Backstay being fitted......... and threading the tensioning ropes. An almost impossible task for old eyes and sausage like fingers. 🤣 Port side. Starboard side. I have successfully completed the Royal Backstays so no excuses. I have done 2 pairs so should be able to do the remaining 62 pairs. 😣 Best wishes as always, The Lazy Saint. Session. Time. Total. 53. 4 hrs. 181.
  10. Hi DanielD, l am not an experienced builder by any stretch of the imagination however, l do remember a survey being conducted on this site which you might find interesting regarding the quality of kits to be found today. If l remember correctly Caldercraft is highly thought of. I have found them very good indeed. Best wishes as always, The Lazy Saint.
  11. Very nicely done Grandphil, l am looking forward to seeing them in situation. Well done you. Best wishes as always, The Lazy Saint.
  12. Hi all, Wow, l shall think of you all snug in your observatory Derek when l am next out in my hat, gloves and scarf. 🤣 A good session today, although very slow and fiddly. Once again l find l am getting quicker as l progress, l hope so as l have a lot of these Deadeyes and Blocks to do. First shot is of the Double blocks attached to the Spars. They have also been fitted to the Masts. Fore Mast Spars. Main Mast Spars. The next picture shows the first set of Deadeyes fitted, this is what took the lion's share of the time today. The following five shots show where l am now. I hope to complete the Fore Mast Port side Deadeyes during my next session. Best wishes as always, The Lazy Saint. Session. Time. Total. 52. 4 hrs. 177.
  13. Hi Derek, Very nice build indeed, superb woodworking skills being displayed. Well done to you. Best wishes as always, The Lazy Saint.
  14. This is looking fantastic, well done. What is on the horizon for build no 2 Best wishes as always, The Lazy Saint.
  15. Hi all, Thanks for the encouragement Edward, appreciated as always. That was very observant of you Derek and yes, l do enjoy Stargazing. Although not an expert by any stretch of the imagination, I particularly like searching for the Messier objects. best wishes as always, The Lazy Saint.
  16. Hi all, Thanks very much for the best wishes, and votes of confidence, they are a real help through this daunting task. My plan is to attach all the Blocks and Deadeyes before even thinking of the rigging, once they are all fitted l am sure the rigging will be clear 🤣 Today saw the completion of the yards. Not to forget the Fore and Main Mast Topgallant Yards. I also managed to fit some of the Formast Yard Tackle Blocks. Here you can see the Fore Mast and Main Mast with their Topgallant Yards in place. (Dry fitted at this stage of course) Final shot showing where I am now. I am now 42 Blocks in and l have to say tying them is becoming a little easier. Repetition of the task instills a little dexterity in old fingers l guess. During my next session....................... more Blocks 🤣 Best wishes as always, The Lazy Saint. Session. Time. Total. 51. 4 hrs. 173.
  17. Hi all, More Blocks today. Work on Horses and Stirrups underway. Here is an example of the "cats cradle" which the builder has to decipher. 🤣 Here is an example of my own "cats cradle" Here is where I am now. Slow but sure. Time for a break. More of the same for the next session so, untill then..... Best wishes as always, The Lazy Saint. Session. Time. Total. 50. 3 hrs. 169.
  18. Hi all, Thanks very much for the kind words Edward and Richard, appreciated. Today l managed another 3 hours at the bench. My mission today was to fit the 12 single blocks to the Bowsprit, fiddly but relaxing. It will soon be time for the Deadeyes....... l hope l can say the same about them. First image shows the job half way through with six blocks fitted. Here is a view showing all twelve. And another...... Next session will see more blocks fitted, in fact, fitting Blocks and Deadeyes will be a main feature in my life for quite a few days to come. Thanks for looking in. Best wishes as always, The Lazy Saint. Session. Time. Total. 49. 3 hrs. 166.
  19. Hi Edward, Thanks very much for the info, appreciated. This may well be the way l go after l complete my Victory. Best wishes as always, The Lazy Saint.
  20. Hi all, Only time for a short session today but l did manage to complete the paintwork. All ready now for attaching blocks and things prior to mounting. l don't know why l found the need for three pictures but, as l have taken them, you may as well see them. Best wishes as always, The Lazy Saint. Session. Time. Total. 48. 2 hrs. 163.
  21. Hi Edward, Very nice indeed, and all from scratch, l am inspired. I may try to scratch build my own ship next, l may even follow in your footsteps. Best wishes as always, The Lazy Saint.
  22. I agree Derek, in fact, the rigging has been one of my favourite aspects of the two builds l have tackled to date. I arrived here in Thanet in 1990, we must have just missed each other, 🤣 Thanks also to both Kevin and Richard for you kind words. Today l managed quite a bit of work on the yards, although a lot of time was spent achieving the correct tapers l still managed a bit of construction. Here they are shaped to the correct tapers (l think/hope) l am sure. I have painted the Yards black and am, at this stage, attaching the Studding Sail Boom's and the Boom Irons. Here is where I am now. Tomorrow l will start by painting the base of the booms, plus the tips and Irons, black. The middle section of the Booms will be Yellow ochre. If time allows, and with a little luck, l may also attach the first blocks. Best wishes as always, The Lazy Saint. Session. Time. Total. 47. 5 hrs. 161.
