  1. Hi all,

I have just been accepted  as a member to your great forum so I recon it is just for me to introduce myself.
I am male, Norwegian, living in Norway, a few miles south of Oslo. I am almost 78 years young and i am very fasinated by scale models, expecially 17. century warships.Have been from when I was a teenager. Merchant ships from this era is also of interest.
I joind the merchant navy at the age of 15 and spent 7 years at sea both cargo and tankships.
I met a Welch barrel of gunpowder, measuring 4ft 11in on a good day and got married and settled down in England at the age of 20. Sadly I lost her 14 years ago. However, life goes on.

I am currently working on a Norwegian 36 gun fregatt from 1826 called "Freia" 1/4"-1 ft.  She is build nr.1 at Horten naval yard and took 3 years to compleet her. She was broke up in 1874.
She newer entered battle in her liftime.
I started the build back in 1985 and have just finished the hull and mounting the guns on the top deck. The hull is "plank on frame" and covered with copper below the waterline. This alone took allmost a year. So now all that is left is all the rigging, but I must admit that I feel as if I am running out of time. My eyesight is still intact and I still havent got the shakes but then "how long is Adam in paradise"?.
This is not my first model , but my third. The first one was of Belgian trainingship, the L,avenir, a four masted barque (drawings from H.A. Underhill, the best). Sold to Langford silvergalleries in 1977. Followed up with a model of a french 44 gun frgatt, "Endymion" or of that class, they had several of them.
While in the merchant navy I made several ships in bottles during the long spells we had at sea. The lads emptied the bottles and I put ships in them. Haig Dimple was the favorite and I made loads of them but I never kept any for myself.

Thats it for now and I feel now that  you all know more about me than I do myself.

    Cheers, Kai
