First step: read up on ship building techniques, to learn new things and to remember lessons learned in the past but now hazy. I found Ship Modeling from Stem to Stern by Milton Roth and especially Ship Modeling Simplified by Frank Mastini to be very useful, they are both easy to read, follow, and understand.

Second step: Build a straight, flat jig to support the hull.  I used some red oak I had on hand in my woodworking shop.

Third step: Free the laser cut keel and frames from their boards. The keel, stem and stern pieces had to be spliced together. The factory cuts are correctly proportioned. However...

Fourth step: the rig slots on the reinforcing bridges are not correctly located so I am fabricating new ones from 1/4" (6 mm) birch plywood. Thankfully I have a pretty complete woodworking shop to handle situations like this.

Gallow Bitts. Made wood pegs for stronger joints. Used a Lego block to square things up.

Yes Dave, I use hand tools a majority of the time. I have better control with smaller things that way.

Finished ships wheel and deck assembly.

Hello there all around the world.

I have received my sheets for the hammock things and will continue the Aggy.
The SotS will be on hold till the Aggy is finished.
So far two small hammock netting things are in place.
    And for Pat, two pictures

I have to use the search function to find this build log
Man, there was a lot of dust on that !
    I have some news.
I ordered a new sheet by Caldecraft for the hammock cranes.
I had destroyed the old ones by doing it totally wrong !
My dear wife ( Anja ) will make the new nettings for me      ( thanks dear )
When the sheet is arrived I will paint all the cranes, make them on a plank of wood, put rope true the eyes and I will hand it over to Anja.
When she is finished I can go further on the Aggy and will finished her before I go further on the SotS.!
Please be patient for a little longer.....
    Thank you !

    Sjors

On this point Gaetan, I have to agree and disagree. I think that this all depends on the particular task at hand, I remember that on a small half hull (7 inches long) I needed a narrow very long chisel. and sometimes I need a very small and short one.

    Hi Rob,

had a look at your trials with the coppering......

if you wish, here is a tip....

my first Trials have been for the bin, but I would`t like to give up so easily.
Some time ago member  Dirk posted a very helpfull link out of that "mini sail Switzerland" assotiation relating to coppering. Together with B.E.`s Prior Input I started a new Trial with real adhesive copper tape. (Tiffany tape) It would in scale size 1:64 be necessary to place 88 to 125 nails per plate of size 6 x 19 mm.

After some Trials I managed to place 88 nails, flattening the surface afterwards, and having the overlapping plates borderline-nails placed at half distances compared with the the main field. Unfortunetely the staggering of the nail lines in the centerfield is beyond my possibilities in this scale. The reproduceabilty is given due to the embossing Tools I made.

The sample here shows the "Tiffany Tape" coppering of the HMS Pegasus with 88 nails per plate, nail surfaces flattend down after poncing. The poncing is done with two different wheels. The 3-disc wheel is used for the larger sized inner field, oin order to obtain a better regular structure. Of course I could have bought the plates, but I wanted to see if I could do it selfmade and in acceptable way.

Well....I've cut the pre or false deck and glued the sections on.  It may appear out of sorts but when dry I will trim the edges and ends and sand the curved deck smooth.  I over extend the decking so I can trim it back nice and flush...controlling the contours

This sub-deck is needed to give the deck a solid base to be built upon...similarly to the sub planking laid down before the final layer of finished planking is laid.

I think I'm done for the day..I spent over 10 hours in the shop today...plus the deck needs to dry.....

    Thanks for looking in.

    Rob
