  1. Sorry don’t know the model,or model builder but looking at the effect on the deck I would suggest it has been acheived by applying a wash - possibly oil paint over a solid enamel or acrylic base coat.
  2. Nice work Latitude 59. I am at the same stage with my Endurance build but didn’t use thinner planks for the deck. Your model looks much more to scale. I thought the portholes looked too small on the kit too. Any idea what size they should be? The cutout under the focsle looks good, the WC was on the left and lamp room on the right according to the plans online. I am going to illuminate my model so light can be seen through the portholes, powered by some small batteries hidden in the base eventually. I bought some warm white LEDs from smallscalelights. Also replacing the crude 3 blade propeller with a 25mm brass 2 blade prop as seen in photos during it’s refit. Keep up the good work.
  3. Hakesou-Lovely job on your model kit of the Endurance. Do you know if the Endurance had the funnel and air vents painted in the same sand colour which is seen on the present day Discovery in Dundee? They are seperate ships but close study of Hurley’s black and white images from the expedition appear to indicate the funnel on Endurance was not painted pure white, which would tend to suggest it could be the same colour on Discovery. Would be interested to know. Once again you have made a fantastic model of the Endurance, it looks great.
  4. Hi Keith, really enjoying following along your fantastic build of both the “Terror” and the “Endurance”. Do you know if the Endurance was covered with copper plating on the lower hull or was it removed for the Antarctic? You can see evidence of copper sheets around the sternpost in the drydock photo posted earlier. Also do you happen to know what is a good size for the propeller for the kit please? I am assuming that nothing is supplied with the kit? Waiting for the next installment of your brilliant build.
  5. Anybody knows that one is more expensive than the other one.😊😉
  6. Footnote... Bransfield House is one of the main buildings named in honour of Edward Bransfield, at Rothera Research Station, Antarctica.
  7. There is a beautiful bone model frigate in the National Maritime Museum, Sydney, next to the boat which acheived the speed record on water. It was made by a French prisoner of war in Edinburgh Castle according to the plaque next to it. A real work of art and worth a look if you are in Sydney.
  8. Keith, Lovely work on your HMS Terror model. Perhaps the National Maritime Museum may be able to tell you what colour the ships boat was painted? For Arctic operations , would have thought it unlikely it was just varnished. For the iron bow plates, have you considered making them out of plastic card instead? Easier to paint, cut and shape compared to aluminium supplied with the kit. I have followed along with Mathew Betts blog build of HMS Terror since he started ,but he has not posted any updates in quite a long time- well over a year now....
  9. Interesting to note that the amount of lead in the cadavers may not have been significantly higher than in the rest of the population of Victorian England at the time. The use of lead piping was commonplace for drinking water pipes and consequently lead levels ingested were proportionally higher. Whilst it is true there was lead used in the canned food for the first time, this may not have been the sole cause of death? One of the bodies- I think it was the Royal Marine, had been shown to have succumbed to tuberculosis . Maybe some day soon the ships log can be found and if it is in any condition for study ( a very big if) , further clues may explain what led to the tragedy. No doubt a chain of several factors.
  10. Hi , what a beautiful model and comprehensive guide to your build. What colour will the hull be when finished....will it retain the very pale colour seen in your photos or will you be aiming for the dark honey colour one sees on the models in the NMM? Will you offer the chance to add masts and rigging for modellers who want to build the complete frigate? When will your shop be operational again please? Thanks in advance if you can answer my questions, just fascinated watching the process with recreating this piece of maritime history. kind regards, Dave
