  1. My twin brother died 12 months ago and I inherited a model of the Billing Boats Wasa model kit. it had been started but had proved a bit too much of a project for him. I took over the build but have just discovered that the plan of the standing rigging is missing from the plans. I have tried various kit shops but they either do not reply to my phone message or cannot help me. If there is someone out there who can help me I would be very grateful. I would like to finish this build as a reminder to me of my twin brother. Thankyou for reading this post Tony Warwick (clipper)
  2. Hi Matti, nice to see you back at the slipway mate, ship is looking good Tony
  3. Hi Pavel , yes it probably would but I would still need the old parts to copy. I would like to reuse as much of the original model as I can so I will clean up and repair what I can and completely replace what I can't. There are several carvings that will need to be replaced because they have been lost over the years and that will be my first foray into carving. Just a quick update: I have now removed the poop deck and the decorative transom parts. Pictures with my next post. Tony
  4. Hi Matti, congratulations on a masterful build. I can't wait to see what your next subject will be. With your permission I will use this log as a source of information to help me with my build log. Thank you for sharing this with all of us Tony
  5. Just a quick update. I have removed the remaining bulwark and the planking. I felt it was morally wrong to do this but there were so many bulwark supports broken off that I had to remove the planking so that I can remove the bulkheads to replace the broken bulwark supports. Tony#
  6. Hi Mark, thanks for your comments. There's a lot of rectification work to be done such as repairing the prow, removing the horrible gold paint on the fittings and remaking from scratch the plywood bulwarks port and starboard that have been varnished with what looks like toffee apple syrup Tony
  7. Hi Michael, some of the plastic parts are missing and the transom has been badly distorted by the use of too much plastic cement that the previous owner had used to glue the transom on with. The planking was not done well and in parts has used filler to smooth out the planks. This is a single planked model so the planking will be coming off. I was fortunate to obtain a wooden kit motor launch (Billings)with the planks still unused from a charity shop. Using these, and the remainder of the planks from the original kit I hope to have enough to complete the hull. Thanks for your comments Tony
  8. Its a new year and its time I cracked this build log thingy, so before I start typing the history of this model I want to make sure I can get the pictures uploaded. Well thanks to my son I've been able to get some pictures on the log. The model had been kicking around an outhouse for about 25 years. Some of the fittings were lost but the overall condition leaves a lot of work to be done to restore / replace it to a suitable condition from where I can progress. I think it will be a total strip down because I have no idea what inhabitants have moved in and the last thing I want is to see is a finished model succumbing to parasites. I have followed many of the different builds on this site and I am proud to be a member of it. I felt it was time to contribute my meagre effort and I hope that this log may be of some help to those who feel that a model is not worth completing
  9. Hi Matti, nice work mate, it looks fantastic. I hope you stay with us when the ship is finished because as soon as I can work out how to get the pictures from my camera to the build log I shall begin my first build log. Having said that I still have to find out how to work my camera. I can remember when you just used to point the thing and press a button, nowadays you have to pick modes, filters and God knows what before you get a picture . I am such a technophobe my daughter has said she will help me. When I get up and running I hope that I can call on you and the other Vasa builders to give me some help and advice along the way, the model as she is at the moment is in a sorry state. As a matter of fact if I leave her as she is she could model the ship as she was at the bottom of the sea . You have given us so much information with your build log mate that I cant wait to start mine Tony
  10. Hi Matti, nice progress on the rigging mate. Are you going to put a lantern at the stern? I have seen other manufacturers have included one with their kits but is there any evidence to support this Tony
  11. Hi Alexandru, Ive just watched you change a wooden block into a metal stove. Nice one mate Tony
  12. Danny, I have heard and seen cheeks before but I never realised that there were such things as bibs. I am still learning. Tony
  13. Hi Remco, having owned a Brown Bess I can congratulate you on your scale reproduction. The Bess had a kick like a mule and was a delight to handle. Don't forget to put it where it can be seen on your Kingfisher, it is a model in its own right Tony
  14. Hi Kev, lovely smooth paint job my friend. Forgive me if I've missed it in an earlier posting but what paint did you use, did you spray or brush? Nice build mate. Waiting for your updates reminds me of when I was a kid waiting for my weekly comic. A good inspirational build Tony
  15. Hi Peter, I know that this build log is a re-run but I never tire of seeing such a beautiful ship Tony
  16. Hi Peter, superb build, thank you for sharing this with us. I knew your iron work would be good and you didn't disappoint. Are you planning a next build? and if so what can we look forward to. Tony
  17. Hi Danny, I have a load of deadeyes, double and single blocks that I had with the dp bounty kit. If you want them PM me and Ill send them down to you. Tony
  18. Hi Peter, your exceptionally high standard of workmanship continues to amaze me, your overviews prior to posting pictures is very instructive and helpful in understanding how you approach the various tasks involved in putting a creation of this standard together. Thankyou for sharing this with us Tony
  19. Hi Matte, I totally agree with Nigel about making a dust cover for the ship. Take the opportunity to make it a lot bigger than the permanent case to enable you to take it off and on the ship without catching it. I'm due to start my Wasa / Wasan / Vasa now and as soon as I can get my daughter to show me how to post pictures I will start a build log. Coincidentally, the ship looks more like a log in it's present state I wont start it until I learn to post. Theres no way that I can come anyway near your beautiful build but your log has been, and will be a source of inspiration for me Tony
  20. Hi Peter, I may have mentioned this on your log on MSW 1 but you have an incredible skill in scaling down each individual part and making it clean and crisp in its construction. The ship really does look like a shrunken version of the real thing to my eye. How do you do it? Tony
  21. Hi Peter, I am so very very glad to see this build log back up and running. For a while I thought we had lost your talent. Looking forward to future postings. I think you created another build log of the Eagle back on the old site, was it lost in the unfortunate crash? Good to see you back mate Tony
  22. Where can I buy / obtain plans or kit of a 1/48 scale ships boat for the Bounty? I have recently finished the Del Prado version (extremely heavily bashed) but have come up against a brick wall where the boat is concerned. The supplied version is not only over scale but also resembles a brick not a boat. If anyone can help me with this I would be very grateful, thankyou Tony
  23. Hi Ed, where can I buy this fantastic bible containing all things clipperish ? I must have a hard copy of this amazing build so that I can have my daily fix when I need it ! ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) Tony Edit: I notice that certain word are doubled up with a "linked to" sign attached to them. Is this just on my PC or has the site been hacked.
