  1. What a clean, handsome build, beautifully photographed.

Looking at the build log, it makes me wonder why buy a kit when there's so much reference available. A scratch build wouldn't be much more work.

Still not convinced of the scroll work or the use of shroud dead-eyes and strapped chain-plates on these boats. A variation of colours would be welcome too. However, this build of this kit is the best so far.

  2. Johann, I've never seen such sublime models. I can only imagine how proud you must be of such exceptional talent.

As a small boy on holiday at a small village on the East coast of England (Filey) in the 60's I remember seeing (in a cottage window) a couple of perfect scale models of the local fishing cobles. I could tell how accurate they were, as I'd just been looking at a row of real ones lined up at the nearby landing.

That memory has been with me all of my life. My recollection is that they were for sale at a price I could afford if I saved 6 months pocket money. That never happened, to my lasting regret.

That was the beginning of a lifetime appreciating fine models. Years later when I worked in London I was a frequent visitor to the Science Museum, drooling through the glass at their superb collection of period ship models.

The consistent impression was that during most of those many visits, I was the only person there! Sadly the entire collection has been removed permanently into storage. Truly a national scandal. I understand the same thing has happened with the collection at the National Maritime Museum!

So much for the heritage of a country that for centuries, saw itself as a nation of seafarers.

I certainly hope work of your high standard is seen by a new generation of impressionable young people.

    Inspiring stuff.
