  1. The attention to detail in this is exquisite. Can I ask what woods were used in your construction, I am looking at how clean and sharp the edges are on your build, even the grain looks right. Amazing craftsmanship.
  2. Few months late to the topic (I'm fairly new so have an excuse ) Has anyone bought this model recently ? I saw a couple of recent purchase reviews that basically said the quality had gone from the new models with sloppy adjustments and misaligned blades. I am looking to re-arm myself with some decent tools since my 20 plus year lay off from modelling but I don't want to throw away money. Since I am UK based the Byrnes saw is not an option without a hefty chunk of postage and the usual ransom sized customs duty Any advice, suggestions or guidance gratefully accepted. Thanks Shane
  3. David/Allen Thank you both for your input. I continue to browse but looking at various reviews and both your contributions, I feel an order will be going in to Vanguard. Flirt or Speedy will be my choice, still deciding if I want to attempt coppering the hull or stick to painting so that will be the final decider. Shane
  4. Very late to the party for me but as this was one of the potential return to modelling kits I was looking at, you may just have saved me a substantial amount of pennies. I had been looking at Stefano from these which seems to have good reviews but may potentially be a big project for a start up. Decisions, decisions, I keep going back to Vanguards offerings but I need to make my mind up soon
  5. He was two centuries two early, Havelok and Grim founded it 13th century 😁 I think they must have waited until they knew he was dead and buried 🤣 Hmmm...wonder what the ship they came over in looked like though
  6. Hello all, as you may guess from my user name I'm from Grimsby, Lincolnshire. Always had a strong interest in boats and ships, coming from a fishing family (went myself for a while too) and started my interest by building Airfix kits etc when I was at school. I progressed to wooden models via the Mary Ann from Billings as at that time there were many of that type of vessel operating here in my home town. From there I went to La Toullonaise from Billings, that whetted my appetite for sailing models and then onto the Bounty from Billings and then the Halifax. Sadly I then stopped for many years due to time constraints and a growing family but now I am finally getting more time back with retirement not a far away prospect, I am wanting to resume. I have browsed many of the build projects and am seriously impressed at the skills shown by the members which has only served to make me more determined to get back into the swing. I love the look of the Victory models and I think that may be my entry back into modelling, the detail on the ships and the rigging looks fantastic, no sails to hide all that work. Hope to contribute more once I am up and running but for now will content myself with watching and questions.
