    Hello Allan, I had not heard about the rebuild of the Ernestina over in Boothbay. I just looked their work up and look forward to learning more. I really enjoy following Sampsons Boat Co's YouTube channel of his rebuild of Tally Ho. Are you familiar with that project? -Steve

    Hi Bob! Another Mainer (but from Away) here. I'm in Downeast Maine. Have fun with the Bluejacket kit! I have their Friendship Sloop on my todo list at some point. Happy building (and stay warm), -Steve

    Hi Everyone! I've been an on and off wooden ship modeler for quite some time. I started my first model, the Benjamin Latham, about 15 years ago. It was a really bad choice for a first model and it eventually got to a point where there were serious problems. Life took me in a different direction for a while and I abandoned the build. I learned a ton at that time but didn't have the time or space to continue with the project. More recently, I've come back to the craft and I'm about half-way through building the Artesania Latina Titanic Lifeboat model. I'm making fewer mistakes this go around (there are still plenty) but I'm having a great time and continuing to learn as I go. I do find the instructions from Artesania to require a lot of deciphering and guessing! I'm going to wrap this project up (mistakes and all) in the coming weeks before diving into the Model Shipways Shipwright series. I hope that series as well as the amazing information (that I wish I had access to 15 years ago) here on this site to provide the support and information needed to make some headway in my building skills. The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955.
