    Hi fellas, I just found this wonderful forum and I'm glad to join! I am a older guy closing in on my 7th decade, father of three, grandpa of one. Hoping to retire in the next year or two from a 4 decade career in construction. I've been an avid hobbyist when time permitted, including radio control airplanes and vehicles, audio systems and photography. I was once a fair builder of model cars and airplanes but it has been many years since I built a ship model. Lately I've been inspired to try my hand again. Over the years I have amassed the tools for it, if not the talent, time will tell! I now have a Glencoe Models 1/225 USS Oregon on the workbench and a pair of Trumpeter 1/200 warships waiting in the wings. For now I'll be reading and asking questions until I have enough progress to merit a build log. It's great to join you all! Jim

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
