  2. For many reasons I have not been able to add to my blog but I did manage to finish the Amerigo this winter. Hope you enjoy the picks.

  5. Great to be retired and have winter weather to allow quality time for my build. Even my golf buddies are enjoying the picks.
  6. I too am building the Amerigo but with the mantua kit. I’ll be watching your log to compare the Ocre kit. Looks very good so far.
  7. Been about ten days since I last updated this log but I have done quite a bit of work. Sticking with traditional Ochre. Was not excited about but after i paint each piece with flat ochre I give it a spray with gloss clear to provide some shine and I like the results.
  8. I agree. I have some concerns about the exact position of the parts since there are no measurements. I’ve noticed on the layout that the rails for the future rigging are pretty tight to other pieces. time will tell. Good thing about being retired is I have plenty of time during the winter to work on the ship.
  9. Working on the sub builds for the main deck. The kit has a lot of deck sun builds which I am looking forward to.
  10. Ship Dude, I really like the color and detail on your model of Soleil Royal.  Splendid job!  Was that an older Mantua model or one produced more recently?  The decoration castings look very detailed and sharp.

This was a kit from Model Space which I believe was part of Deagostini. Loved the kit. Wanted to buy the sovereign of the seas but they no longer ship to the US.

  11. Moving along with the hull and the decking. The paint on the hull was quite a challenge. Many coats were needed but I think I nailed it. Happy new year to all.
  12. Just joined the group. I have built many ships and was not aware of this forum. I finished the Sovereign of the seas in 2019 and the Soleil Royale in 2021. My newest project is the Amerigo Vespucci. It has been quite different that the older model ships with all the sun builds but I am enjoying the challenge. The hull was indeed different since it is painted and I was a putty and sanding operative until I got it just right. More to come.
