Lol, my trade is that of a computer aided designer (CAD) and I operate my own company - (man do). I provide computer design services to engineering companies.

A gift from my wife - I started this one a couple of years ago, I've added a little bit of new technology by printing out some of the parts with a 3D printer. Almost done the hull then off to the rigging. Most kits do not come with the fancy gold trim so I modeled my own and printed them up. Like they say - good from far - far from good. I still have lots to learn but I'm having a good time.

This model was gifted to me from a fellow veteran who has since passed away from cancer, I figure that the kit is around 30 years old but it has good bones. First thing is to strip off the old deck and replace with 1/32 plywood then mark it up to start planking the deck

Hi Andy, I have Billings kits. Not my first choice but both were gifts so off I go. I find that they are okay - I'm having to rebuild most of the parts as they are very brittle. The HMS Bounty is a 1:50 scale and the Cutty Sark is a 1:75 scale which I am cutting the planking for this weekend. I like challenges - lol.

Hello everyone, my name is Tom and I'm from landlocked Calgary Alberta, Canada. I started building and refurbishing model ships many years ago, I'm not the best but better than average. I've even worked on life size sail boats a 30 and 50 footer and I also build cedar strip canoes. I'm currently working on 2 kit builds at the moment. 1 - the HMS Bounty and 2 - the Cutty Sark. I hope there are some people on here that I could talk to about them. Well that's me in a nut shell, I'm looking forward to learning and sharing.

I would start at the bow and work my way back but that's just me. I'm working on the Cutty Sark - the cut is pretty steep in front so on the original ship all the water force would be at the front, it makes sense to me to start there. Wrap the edges of the keel to overlap the edge plates. Run the keel plates length ways - start from the stern so the lapped plates run forward - kinda like shingling roof peek. Hopefully with less awkward cuts. I would have responded sooner but this is my first time on the site. Hope that helps
