The Sailor got a reaction from Julie Mo in J-class yacht Endeavour 1934 by The Sailor - Amati - 1:35
    Thank you very much, guys.

Alfons, the area is to big for painting so I'll use my airbrush.

Well, time for a little update. Some more rows on and time for planking the keel.

Again I started with the bulb area covering using 3mm stripes

The rest was planked with the 5mm stripes

    Hi Richard:

Beautiful work! It seems to me that (unless my eyes are failing - which is always possible - the image on the box shows the hull finished as you describe, no? After such a beautiful planking job it'll be good to show it off a bit! And the mahogany presents a nice contrast with the painted hull above the waterline. Can't wait to see more

Thank you very much Floyd and Timothy.

    Floyd,
I used some filler but not very much. Don't worry about the slot - it's still open. The reason of the second planking is I just want to paint her above the waterline and leaving the bottom covered with the mahogany planking. I know, it's nonsense because the Endeavour have a steel hull but it's an option of the kit. And it looks nice.
The scale makes no different in planking or tapering the planks.

Richard - Wow, I must say what a beautiful job.  Can't wait to see her when she's finished!  You should be very proud up to this point.

    Cheers,

Richard - It doesn't look like you used any filler. Did you just sand the first layer and then lay on the 2nd? Also did you cover over the slot for the drop keel? And finally since you plan to paint her do you really need the 2nd layer of planking? Last question, can you offer some feedback on the difference between planking at 1:48 or 1:64 and 1:35. Is it easier to taper the planks?

By the way she look beautiful. You are tempting me very much.

I have always admired those boats. They are pure beauty under sail. Way too big to be of any practical value other than racing machine but incredibly beautiful none the less.

Very nice work Richard! The size of the model is truly impressive, allowing for a great level of detail.

How do you plan to paint the hull, brush or spray paint?

    Keep up the good work.

Cheers Mobbsie and all the 'likes'.

Think I'm officially into the rigging stage.  Mizzen mast stepped and the shrouds in installed.  I'm going to wait to finish 'tightening' these until later.  Found the method of getting the 3.5mm deadeyes into the shrouds at the correct height very fiddly, after many choice words found that using 2 pieces of wire in the holes worked better for me (rather than a single one as called out in the instructions) as this provided some more stability.  Hopefully the 5mm deadeyes will be a little easier.

Theres quite a stack of shrouds around the mast which is quite pleasing, glad that these were served.  Following Andy's advice the Burton pendants were 'painted' with quite a bit of dilute PVA and then weighted so that they followed a more natural, less gravity defying line.

A belated Happy New Year to everyone!!

    Build Update:

    Completed all masts, bowsprit, yards.

Couple of things I deviated from plans:  Drawing shows boarding pikes going through both mast rings.  I brought the lower one down, so pike bases would rest on ring bottom.
Some of the smaller yards said for center to be 16 parts instead of the usual 8 parts (with or without battens).  I just left these rounded.  This scale don't think would have shown.  I also left top gallant yards rounded for same reasons.

Next up all the blocks and such to be added to these pieces.

Everyone:  Wishing all the best upcoming year yet.  Happy New Year and hoping Santa brought everything you wanted.

    Happy modeling,
    Len

Doug, John, BE, Jim, Robert, Sjors - Thanks a bunch for kind words.  Getting a lot of loose ends done and seems randomly capturing in my log.  I've suddenly started having issues imbedding pictures in my posts, not sure if its some site incompatibility itself or my PC.

Robert - your pictures are below.  As I've said before I don't want to bore people but please let me know if you want to see more!  The base is home made any still not finished but this was a good opportunity to see how it looks with the ship.

Completed the blocks on the tops, as I've mentioned previously the instructions only call for single blocks on the fore top.  However, even though I probably will not rig any buntlines, I did want this to be as authentic as possible.  Research didn't seem to provide anything specific but in general it seems that a couple of double blocks on each 'corner' was somewhat typical so this is what I went with.  Followed same method outlined earlier, these seemed to take forever to make, there were certainly rejects and structural failures during installation, as well as having to fill holes that I'd previously drilled.  Luckily these proved to be not too noticeable.

    That's the easy part...
According to the instructions the part of the bulk-heads above deck shall simply be broken off after planking has been done. Then the support for the planking is obviously gone but I assume that with two layers planking that won't be a problem. I'm a bit afraid about the "breaking off"-part, so before I mounted the bulkheads I sawed half-through them, to make the breaking easier and not risking to destroy anything. This is the first picture.

At last managed to get a bit of reasonable light so am including a few pictures of the running rigging done so far. The first two show the running rigging from threar and the second two from the front. The second two also show the crows feet on the main and mizzen stays. I have actually done the foremast as well but haven't included a photo of this.
May I take this opportunity to wish anybody reading this, the seasons greetings and my best wishes for the new year

His son Christian took the time responding to my message to Eddie.
I want to share this one sentence with you all.

We spoke often and he'd talked about all the advice and help he'd got from MSW "people all over the world, with this damn lil ship." I thank you all for that.
    Best Wishes
