  1. Sidetracking a bit, but spent good part of the weekend sorting out my 'workshop', bought a few cabinets to try to keep it tidy. Few pic's of my current build, Granado where I just need the final details before I can move on to building Pegasus.
  2. Hi Dylan, The manual is about 10 pages long and covers the hull constructions (rigging is not covered in the manual). However the model comes with 12 pages of highly detailed plans in scale 1:2. At least what I have seens so far it should be easy enough to follow the instructions and plans for this model. //Soren
  3. Hi, Don and Martin, Thanks a lot for your comments. The Swan Class is in my view absolutely beautiful so looking forward to 'laying the keel'. I was actually originally planning to build Royal Caroline but had a change of mind at the end and went for Pegasus instead. @Martin - beautiful work on the HMS Fly - I actually read through your log in my research for my next build. @Don - Looking forward to build/follow along with your build. Since I have small kids and a demanding job I'm a notorious slow builder, so suspect you will beat me to the finish. Cheers Søren
  4. Hi, Decided to start my very first build log for my next build the HMS Pegasus. This will be my 3rd model to build. However will be a few weeks before I start the actual build, as I need to finish up the last details on my current build, Bomb vessel Granado and build a display case for it. I have promised the captain to complete my model before I start with the next one, so better stick to it (although itching to get started with the new model). I received the model kit Friday last week, however when I opened the box a few parts were missing most noticeable the figurehead and gunport pattern was not included (pretty hard to build without those parts.... But been in contact with Amati and it should hopefully be in the mail. Other than that I must say I am impressed by the overall quality of the timber and fittings. Compared to my current build from Caldercraft the Timber is defiantly an upgrade so can't wait to get cracking with the model. I am planning to build it pretty much straight out of the box, however will make my own rope and upgrade blocks with Chucks pear wood blocks. My ambition is to build it as historically accurate as I can out of the box (not planning to do any major scratch, rework etc.). As a very talented builder says 'if you don't do it right, it's just a piece of artwork and not a model'. Luckily for me there's quite a few excellent builds of this model already on this forum which I will use for reference. Cheers Soren
  5. Hi, Below the waterline the hull would most likely have been paintet zink White. Decor coulors im afraid i can't assist you. Regards Søren
  6. Thanks a lot for the replies. Think the penny has dropped for me. Kind regards, Søren
  7. Hi, Thank you for the replies. Guess I just need to experiment with different threads to see what I can get out of it. Does anyone know the thickness of a 120/2 and size 60 polyester thread? simply impossible to find this information online. I'm planning to use Polyester thread (most likely Amann thread) as I like the finish. If you make a 3 strand rope and then use 3 of these ropes to make a thicker robe, would you then have to turn opposite direction or? Thanks in advance //Søren
  8. Hello, I am in the process of creating my own rope for the first time. for the purpose I have acquired myself a Planetary ropewalk - so far so good. The big question for me is: I need to make rope with a diameter: 0,25, 0,40, 0,50 and 0,75 mm. (and a few more). the first one (0,25mm) I can easily make with a 3 strand of my base thread, but then my trouble starts. To create a rope with a diameter of 0,50mm would you then take 3 strands of 0,25 rope and turn it oppisite direction (i.e. first 0,25mm is made a S-turned, then the 0,50 mm would be z-turned) or should they be turned in the same direction? To make the 0,40 mm my initial thought was making a 2 strand thread from my base thread to create a rope with a diameter of circa 0,18mm and then use 3 ropes to make the 0,40 robe. Would that be completely off? Finally how to make the thick ropes (0,75mm)? could the same base thread be used or do you need a thicker base thread? Thanks a lot in advance Søren
  9. Hi, If it's first planking i have previously used Revell plasto bodyfiller. Alternatively mantua have a line of woodfiller i have used for smaller gaps Regards, Soren
  10. Hi Adam, Thanks for your comment. Been considering a permanent marker or archive pen but a bit worried about the bleeding into the wood. I like a clean look with straight lines (why I decided to go with the treat on my current build). I will make some test samples and post the results here. //Soren
  11. Thanks a lot for the feedback. Think I will see how pencil works out. The model is panarts Royal caroline so Think the scale Would suite this method quite well Soren
  12. Hi, I'm about to start my next build and need some advice regarding deck planking. How have you made simulated caulking? On my current build I usted a thin tread however seems a bit 'over the top''. Seen several buildlogs Where the caulking Washington simulated with a pencil. Any good suggestions are most welcome Regards Soren
