  1. John,

Mihail's address is : mihail.kirsanov@mail.ru      Remember he does not speak english so you will have to translate to Russian.  Let me know how it works out.

  2. Vossiewulf,

I am always in awe of your tools and being a tool Junkie myself I like to check things out before buying.  I notice your previous thread on Micromotors and I am currently about ready to pull the trigger on an NSK Evolution.

This thing has gotten pretty pricey but I would rather buy once than experience future problems.  I have a Ram now that I have had for about 20 years but it is time to upgrade and this NSK will do about 40,000 RPM's. I just wanted to check with you before I commit.  Do you have any thoughts or opinions on these.  From what I understand they are indeed the Rolls
    Royce of micromotors.

    Thanks,

    Bill

  3. John,

Was just looking through some posts and saw that one of your builds was the Dorothy.  I have always thought I would like to tackle that someday and have all of the books that I know of on the Dorothy but no plans.  Did you obtain a nice set of plans for this?

I am located in Roanoke but was very close to some of your members in the past, both of which are now gone.  Marvin Bryant and Tom Tragle.  Did you know these folks?

    Thanks,

    Bill

      John,

I thought I sent you an e-mail regarding this after finding the reply this weekend but who knows? I may have failed to send it.  Marvin and Tom were both close friends and I used to visit with Marvin when he went to see his daugher at Radford College.  Tom was a great help to me in my early years of modelmaking encouraging me to build from scratch.

I am impressed with your Dorothy and would love to have more info and pictures of your progress if available.  I would also be interested in copies of the plans.  I assume this was bread and butter construction.  I would gladly pay for any charges to reproduce the plans.  I have searched high and low for more info on this and have accumulated some of the publications but no success with any plans.

I hope this e-mail reaches you, I have no idea what happened to the last one I sent you.  I have been a member of this group for years but not much of a participant and I am lacking in some of the technical skills on this group.  Sorry for the long winded reply.

      Bill,

I saw your email yesterday. I am about a week from finishing the model--delivery is Friday 7/19. The model hull is bread and butter and carved 35 years ago or so. The deck house is one piece of pine which I did as an experiment in shaping wood in 3 dimensions. the rest is standard scratch construction. All scratch except the ports, the prop, and the sheaves.

I have a set of plans in 1/4"=1' scale which you are welcome to.

      John,

Thanks for the quick reply.  Didn't mean to badger you over this but couldn't find evidence of my last e-mail.  Get back to me when you have a few minutes and I will give you an address for the plans and any other info you have available.  Anxious to see the final results, looks like a retirement gift and should be very well appreciated.

  4. Keith,

You have done such a great job on your mods to your Brynes Saw that I am interested in your thoughts on a modification I would like to make.  I have the Brynes high fence and bought an extra to add a sacrificial wood higher fence to .  I am about to drill this out and tap it to accept the height extension but thinking further ahead I would like to add a slot or some other means to employ hold downs.  Maybe some form of "T" slot.  Have you given this any thought?

    Thanks,

    Bill

      Dear Bill

Once or twice over the last year I have wanted to mill a slot in the end of a longer piece of wood. Here a higher fence might have helped but I managed by clamping the plank to a square block of wood to keep the plank square to the table. Because I don't find much need for a higher fence I haven't given much thought to fence modifications.   However I would be interested to know how you get on as   its always good to see other good ideas.

      Keith,

Thanks for the quick reply, will let you know if I make any progress.

  5. Mark,

Just looked at the picture of your "Jim" saw in your reply to Thistle.  How did you attach the high piece of aluminum to your fence?  I purchased an extra fence to add a sacrificial wooden fence to give me more height as well as protection to my fence if I get to close.  I have always done this on my big Saw Stop to prevent fence damage but there are a lot of other means to handle this on a full size saw.

I thought about using screws and just tapping threads in the fence but I can't seem to get up my nerve to mess up a brand new fence and thought maybe you had figured another way to accomplish this.  Your thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

I don't have a Jim saw but a MicroMark.  The aluminum is just clamped to the fence.   Some (Grant Dale) did do that with tapped holes and screws in the fence.  Works well.

Thanks, will probably do that, I find that at my age now, I have to research and think everything through before getting the drill out.  It is detrimental and counter productive sometimes but I have made too many mistakes before.  Thanks for the reply.
