Finding trades people the last year or so has been a nightmare. One of my local friends is pulling his hair out over it. We've talked about the both of us doing what he wants but then getting it inspected and approved is a big problem as the inspectors and codes insist on licenses for doing any plumbing or electrical. It's not that there's a shortage of them but that they are all so busy re-working houses that been bought by new owners.
There is an influx of trades People in other parts of Europe now tho, a lot of those who were working in the UK and Now cant get a work permit are getting back to the mainland

I now know about angling the parts, a delicate balance, as I try to use as few supports as I can get away with.
This is my very first attempt for the Sphinx stern casting, angled and with all supports at the rear, which came off easily.
Plenty of flex in the material, and as it is printed directly from the master file, little to no shrinkage - a world away from white metal.
That seems to Look even better than the cast one, at least the breasts arent that weirdly pronounced

I bought a MSLA 3D Printer last week, as I am trying to do as much in house as I can. It is only a little printer to practise on, with a view to get a larger one if this works out.
Here are a couple of pics of my first results, Duchess of Kingston figureheads, and Nelson figures in 48th and 96th scale. Sorry about pic quality, but all my photographic equipment is stowed away at the moment..
Make sure to calibrate the resin each time you open a new bottle - RERF as a General test for each New resin type and then each bottle it is suggested to run the validation matrix to fine tune exposure. What printer did you get? I got an Anycubic Mono X but i only use the water washable resin due to IPA smell

Hi All,
Getting ready for the first build (Amati Lady Nelson), who has built their first ship and wished they had started with a building slip? When during the build process is it most useful?
Dave
i did use the big HZ Building slip actually on LN and Sphinx build, mostly wile assemlbing the bulkheads and then during first strakes of planking.
Now i actually think of pulling it iut again to help me with a few things

Did you model those yourself or find somewhere to download an .stl? I am really interested to see how they look in their final form!
oh so you want me to paint them NOW ?
I did download them, my 3D sculpting skills are limited to Technical things, during 20+ years dabbling in 3D Software i never learned to sculpt organic stuff
i am waiting for my Amazon delivery of airbrush primers, so might take up some painting in the next few days

is number 11 or 12 going to be a sister of an unspecified Kitten-Named Ship ?

hm, isnt there an option to buy the paper in a specific color ?
I wouldnt run painted paper through a printer, the paint will most definitely rub off on some rolls and might damage the printer

i just use my multitool's pliers as a pin-pusher, i also bought the fancy pusher from the 1st post and find it completely unusable

They look neat! Did you 3D print them?
Yes, Resin Printed, i will attempt to paint them but i think i need to re-print them a bit smaller - at the moment they are 25mm (except the bucket guy, i screwed up his scale and he is 23mm high now but he should be much shorter as he's bent over quite a bit)
Anyways, decorations done on Port side:
Next up Channels and Hull Steps (plus i need to finish the Bow grating area)
On a side note, i failed at Blackening the brass hinges for the stern Port lids, i will attempt to clean them up and just paint but i have to wait for Black Airbrush primer to arrive

A little side-Project
Although i think the figures turned out a bit too tall
(No, i do not plan to use that Cannon on the model - although it does look quite good but i wouldnt be able to paint it like it is now)

Well. I have failed miserably with the ship's boats. Just so fragile and tiny planking. What I am going to do is use some precast resin hulls from Jotika and fit most of the pieces from this kit to those hulls. So far it is going pretty well. It will be better than nothing. I have dry fitted the photo etched pieces to the pinnace and so far they are a very close fit.
Can you tell/link which hulls you have used from Jotika/Caldercraft ?

The gold on the photo etch.... are you primering first? I've not done much photo etch and this kit will my first major effort but in the past, I've had to clean the brass in acetone, rinse, dry, put in some vinegar for about 15 minutes to give it some "tooth" and then rinse and dry. Once the cleaning and etching the tooth, I've painted.
What little testing I've done on this kit's brass, tells me just primer. Seems the recommended "gold" doesn't like bare metal.
Yes, i am using Vallejo Primer and applying it with an Airbrush.
The primer is sticking to the Brass without problems, It's the Gold paint which peeps off from the primer. Anyway, will Touch them up after they are fitted on the Model, no big deal

You could always take my approach and buy a second kit🤣, yours look much better than mine however so I am sure you can fix the issues.
I am currently working on the quarterdeck and forecastle on my V1 kit, as soon as that is complete I will start work on the v2 kit
Well, no ? I am waiting for Chris' Bigger Ship and all the lessons learned here will be applied to it
The Galleries themselves are purely cosmetic here, if i can find a way to make the one side at least to look good, then it's not a big deal for me, as long as it is "clean". Nobody will ever see the other side so they wont be able to compare if it isnt an exact mirror copy

Agreed on @myxyzptlyk2003 comment here, i got one of the small boats from you as a warm-up before i even ordered the Sphinx kit and so far it was a fail so i will propably try again with the kit boats, but having a resin-cast hull seems the way to go here, also die to the fact that some People might enjoy more doing the Deck furniture and fittings than Hulls (comes down to personal builder prefer ce).
I am Glad that Chris makes them, It's always an option and having options is good
