good to see you back at work on your build. i can see you are determined and dont get put off having to redo things so she will turn out really good
i had some issues myself that prevented me from building for awhile so i know how it feels to be back :
-
David after a good sanding it will look good again
i see the first planking as training . on my Endeavour i will try and make it look like it should but if not the woodfiller will come out too
-
thanks Keith now that would be great if i can finish her by christmas and put her next to the tree
thanks Sjors. yes i mena the capstan (i couldnt think of the word )
thanks Mick. i intend to see if i cna find pictures of ships that show that part so i can have a better idea
-
I have checked the slots and correct it.
I can not believe such a thing never changed by the KIT builder. :(
yes it is disapointing that such an obvious mistake doenst get corrected. unfortunately it is not the only one in this kit

yesterday I tried putting the smoke stacks in
noticed some off them are not lining up straight
today decided to start on finishing the first deck railings
I also was trying to make sense of this
if you look carefully in the 2 pictures you notice the part with the 8 pieces of wood sticking out are not the same
in the first they sit against the middle part, in the second they are underneath it

verry good start Robert
next make sure to check the placement of the 2 rooms as you will notice one of them doest fit in the slots of the deck. whatever way you go (extend the room or remove the part that fits in the slot) you need to check when you add the next deck because it wil not line up properly
-
hello Robert good to see you started a build log
-
going well dragzz
i actualy didnt put in thos 2 reinforcements at the bow as i filled the whole front with a piece of balsa to make it easier
-
thanks David
yesterday after almost an hour and my hair and back dripping with sweat I managed to bolt the top part down. I hope I never have to take it of again
before adding the steering cabin part I need to finish some off the railings
this is how I make them :
first drill a hole in each end off the 14mm long 3x3 part
then a thinned toothpick is used to glue the bead to one end. later on the toothpick is cut off and a lick of black paint to finish it off
another thinned toothpick is wedged in the other hole and cut off . this will fit in the holes I drilled in the deck for added support
making sure the post is straight
and here some of the railing parts glued between the posts
couldn't help myself and did another test of the lights
-
hello Robert
yes don't worry too much about your English I am sure It will be fine and there are plenty of Dutch speaking people (including me) on the forum to help
Keith no it wasn't at a traffic light but I had stopped a second before the guy hit me from behind. as far as I know no tire marks but I estimate that the speed with which the guy hit me couldn't have been more then 20-30 KMH. anyway I will see if they are going to give the ticket or not because I would have thought they would have done it on the spot
more important some progress on my build
working on assembling more of the stairs. yet again some errors from AL in material which meant I was 2 steps short. used some thicker basswood sanded down.
I did myself make an error. the way I fitted the side posts mean I was using more wood but I didn't realise that over 28 posts this meant almost half one of the 3X3 dowels so now I am short about 7 small posts to finish off the 3rd deck
I don't have anything spare from any of the other kits so only option is to use some 1.5x3 strips glued together (if I have spare of those)
-
hello dragzz
try putting the keel on a flat surface and see if there is any warping
now the way the bulkheads fit in you should be able correct it easily
-
-
thanks Mick i test the lights every time and so far its all good
thanks Robert. i hope you will start a buildlog of her soi cna follow and help if necessary
-
-
Thanks Piet
thanks Edwin and don't worry I highly doubt they would go that far
I have now installed the wiring but have been struggling with the 2 bolts that will hold the part down. just waiting for the glue to dry on some reinforcements I installed.
to hold the next level I am thinking of using magnets. strong enough to hold it in place but still easy to remove if necessary
-
thanks for your support Robbyn, Popeye and Wayne
i have had a look at the road rules :
rule number 126 : A driver must drive a sufficient distance behind a vehicle travelling in front of the driver so the driver can, if necessary, stop safely to avoid a collision with the vehicle.
nothing about stopping a car length behind and i stopped safely and avoided the collision so they have no leg to stand on . case closed
if they dare to send me it i will even put in a complaint
-
hope you are still improving
-
i agree . doesn't matter what you use paper or brass as long as it turns out how you want its good
-
-
thanks Kevin and Mark
yup Sjors I am with you on that traffic jams would be twice as worse and so many drivers think the road is all theirs and they can do what they want not realising how they put lives at risk .
sadly it seems most traffic laws are not about safety but about revenue raising.
anyway I did a bit of building too. almost finished the 3rd deck stateroom
few more wall planks and the window and I am done
-
thanks Sjors.
basically what happened was that a car put on his indicator late which caused the car in front of me to have to brake hard. I was a safe distance behind him and with braking hard (with which I don't mean screeching tears and burning rubber ) a came to a halt about 1 meter behind it at which time the car behind slammed into me pushing me forward. the police say I should have been able to stop at least a car length behind the one in front. well I am not so young anymore and my reaction was probably not as good as it should have been but I came to a halt safely without hitting anything so isn't that safe enough
well I will object to the ticket when it comes not sure if that will do anything but I can only try
anyway I am ok I have sorted out a replacement car for the time its in repair so all is good
